  I journeyed to Peru last December 2024 as an impromptu solo trip to Lima to wrap up my end of the year. Booked a last minute sightseeing tour and I fell head-over heels with the beauty of Peru. I decided to extend my trip by 3 days to continue onto Cuzco and Manchu Picchu Puebla. I stumbled upon the Punqu agency through Viator as they offer standard day excursions that take the guesswork out of complicated travel logistics. As I dug deeper into Punqu’s other metaphysical journeys on their webpage and social media. I was intrigued to learn more about their 7-day mystical plant medicine retreat with Ayahuasca and Wachuma (San Pedro). Zahara, one of the founders and facilitators walked me through the entire process over the the phone and we chatted about my needs and intentions during the next several weeks. Every step of the way, I felt gently guided and was assured about the retreat process. Plant medicine retreats are often a crowded marketplace within central and south America. Punqu’s tranquil approach towards integration with the mystical plants, sets themselves apart from other retreat centers who are solely focus on psychedelic tourism profits. Ayahuasca and Wachuma (San Pedro) are indigenous to Peru making it the perfect setting to conduct plant ceremonies in its ancestral land. The Punqu method peels back the layers of trauma and conventional beliefs and makes the participants dig deeply into some much needed introspection often overlooked by a hectic modern lifestyle. Punqu sets up all the logistics to the retreat center up in the foothills of Urubamba. The homestyle accommodations are charming and cozy. Each 2-person cabin is equipped with a gas heater, hot water/tea thermos, twin bedding, overhead lighting, electricity, and outlets to charge your cellphone. Bathroom amenities are a separate outhouse with a basic shower and flushing toilet. A nourishing Peruvian style breakfast is provide daily and is prepared by chef, cofounder, and shaman Valentin. The rest of the day is dedicated for meditation, journaling, and deep rest in preparation for the nightly plant ceremonies. I was blessed to experience two different unique modalities with shaman Lino from the Q’ero tribe of the Andes and Joel from the Shipibo people of the amazon. The Punqu retreat center is a safe place for deep soul enrichment, meditation, and personal spiritual insights. It’s for those individuals who are willing to let go of any preconceived orthodox belief systems that have been conditioned over time by society and shatters the identity of one’s ego. Highly recommended to those seeking an alternative self-healing journey to unlock your inner child with the safe guidance of experienced Plant Medicine facilitators.

  I recommend Punqu Inner Travel Agency to anyone that is looking to travel to Perú. Sahra and her team are amazing, organized and extremely helpful. She takes care of every details. I also recommend their Ayahuasca retreat, it is a safe and secure place to go.

  This was my second time traveling with PUNQU Inner Travel, and once again, they exceeded all expectations. I always feel incredibly safe, supported, and genuinely loved. This time, I experienced six powerful ceremonies, visited Rainbow Mountain, and explored the breathtaking Machu Picchu every detail was beautifully organized for me. The food was absolutely delicious, and I felt nourished in every way. I have so much love and gratitude for Zahra and her wonderful family.   This was a amazing part of my life the I will never forget, and the pungu inner travel were the best to experience with. Zahra and valentine make sure all our needs and questions were answered, everything is just perfect the view are amazing the food the peace you will experience there is like no other ayahuasca has been in my mind for years and i knew I wanted to experience this medicine the hard part was finding a safe place to go and I tell you that pungu inner is the best place to be while you are rebirthing your self all I can say is the thank you pungu for having this place… it was so good to be a part of it and hope to see you again soon

  Zahra and Valentín were super thoughtful and attentive during all my trip. Always checking if everything was okay and sharing tips and tricks. I took this solo trip so it was great feeling their support. Highly recommended! They stole a bit of my heart with their kindness. 💛

  I went for plant medicine, and a tour. I went to the rainbow mountain. I indeed challenged myself to climb to the top which was a phenomenal experience I had. I went to sacred Valley. I went to Machu Picchu. The food was on point the people were very friendly, as a solo traveler I was worried but Zahra and her husband were amazing human beings.   We booked a private tour for five people and the tour company picked us up from the hotel on time. However, when we were dropped off at Ollantaytambo, we encountered some issues with our train tickets to Machu Picchu. Fortunately, our tour guide was extremely helpful and helped us to resolve the problem. Overall, it was a great trip and we really enjoyed the company of our tour guide and the driver.   I’m a retired attorney raised in the Midwest (now in Oxnard, CA). Even though I am a somewhat conservative 64 year old guy not prone to expressing superlatives, I describe my experience as nothing short of amazing and life changing. Zahra and Balentine are new friends for life. They treated me as family (even enjoyed an extended-family lunch gathering). In short, they care. The retreat checks off all the boxes in what to look for in a retreat. Safety, focus, knowledge, confidence, attention (maximum 4 guests, which is very important), and pleasant comfortable surroundings all contribute to a very positive experience. Shaman Balentine and Zaher create, purify, and concentrate their own ayahuasca tea, leaving nothing to chance regarding the quality and potency. They were so attentive and intuitive to my needs, they even anticipated needs I didn’t think of. They both took a day from their busy schedules to personally guide me on a trip to some very unique and relaxing hot springs, allowing me to truly experience the local people and culture. My desired sleep schedule, motivation level, and mood at the moment (as shifting as it might be) controlled. The breakfasts they made at the retreat were so tasty, I didn’t care that I was being a glutton. The unique and local plant-ripened fruit such as papaya, cactus flower buds, and another that they “just thought that you would like” (I did) showed me how wholesome, nutritious, and most of all delicious, a vegetarian diet can be. For a lifetime “meat and taters” guy now working to eat more healthy, my friends have dubbed it as a verifiable miracle. Being lousy at foreign languages, I was reassured by Shaman Balentine’s command of English. His knowledge of Peruvian history, culture, and current politics/social dynamics is encyclopedic. He is a very personable and humble man-of-all-seasons who mastered his ayahuasca skills through a lifetime of training, hard work, and apprenticeship with his grandfather, a longtime and respected shaman. Having lived his entire life (so far) in the region, his knowledge of interesting things to see and do leaves the alternative of just relaxing and hanging out in the idyllic retreat an unlikely choice, but I managed some time for that, too. Zahra, Ballentine’s wife and mother of their three months old daughter, grew up near Paris and spent summers in Boston. Her English is flawless. She spearheads the nuts and bolts, logistics, and business end of the operation, arranging the tours of the Sacred Valley, Rainbow Mountain, and Machu Picchu. The tours, lodging, and food were top notch. Zahra was also integral in the ceremonies, debriefings, and in setting goals for each ceremony. She followed up on everything, leaving nothing to chance, to assure every detail was as it should be. She offered guidance and practical information throughout the entire process to make sure my experience was as best as it could be. I seldom, if ever, revisit places that I’ve toured, there being plenty more world to see.
