5.00When I began my research into Beatles tours of Liverpool, my original plan was to take a bus tour. However, when I spotted the private taxi tours, it immediately seemed like a much better idea. So I read the reviews, and I quickly realized that Ian and his Mad Day Out tour was definitely a much better idea, not only because we had just finished 12 days on a bus going around Italy, but because it felt more personal AND because when you are talking about a group of 3-6 people, the price ends up being about the same. There was just two of us, and it still wasn't much more than the bus yet it was totally worth it! Now, I have been a news reporter for more than 20 years, so I do not give reviews lightly, nor do I embellish them. I report the facts, and when it comes to Ian and his Mad Day Out Tour, the fact is, you will not find one better! Ian will not only take you to all four of the boys' childhood homes as well as places like Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and a very old church, where a certain lady died in the church and was buried along with her name, but he has stories that even the deepest Beatles fan probably wouldn't know. In addition, he carries his Beatles Bible, which is full of pictures and information that helps to illustrate everything he's telling you. I am not exaggerating when I say that the tour was so good and so detailed that it was almost overwhelming. However, what my friend and I both found is that it gives you a whole new perspective on Beatles music which, after 60 years, makes it feel all fresh and new again. Plus, it doesn't take long to figure out that Liverpool is a great town, so you get a good sense of what's going on there as well. The little street where the Cavern Club was located has so many little music clubs adorned with neon lights that it almost felt like Nashville. And, of course, you also want to make sure to visit Albert Dock so you can see the Ferry Cross The Mersey (Gerry And The Pacemakers' love letter to Liverpool). While you're at the dock, you might even spot the statue of an American rock and roll icon who was surely an influence to for the Beatles. When you go, just remember, cash is king! So make sure you have enough Pound Sterling in your pocket to pay the man. I promise when it's over, you'll want to give Ian everything you have!

5.00What a trip.. it was amazing to learn about BEATLES history, understand the origins and details of their beginning. Ian was really knowledgeable , friendly and humorous, I was tired but he perked us right up with his incredible oration skills! Best value and worth every penny !

5.00If we could give more than 5 stars we would!! Brilliant tour, Ian was so knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. This was a birthday treat for our mum. We had a fabulous time. We chose this as an alternative to the busy bus tours and so glad we did. We were able to get out of the taxi at all stops and Ian gave us very detailed insights into the lives of the Beatles, where they grew up and even took out photos.

5.00Ian was very helpful by changing the pickup and drop off location. His knowledge and attention to detail is phenomenal. Many reminders for us dinosaurs- Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Eleanor Rigby plus the 4 Beatles houses. This tour teamed with a Cavern Club visit made me realise how special The Beatles were. Amazing. I did wonder whether Ian could sweep the board on Mastermind-subject matter 'The Beatles' obviously.

5.00Ian has an encylopedic knowledge of the beatles and he brings each of their stories alive. If you are a true fan and want to explore the stories behind some of the songs and their way of life and how it impacted what they became this is the tour for you. Myths busted all the sites visited. Ian thank you brilliant tour, made my Birthday.

5.00We had a great time with Ian on this tour of all the Beatles's boyhood homes, and key sites such as Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, and Eleanor Rigby's grave. While you don't go inside any of the homes (you need the National Trust tour for that), Ian's encyclopedic knowledge and passion for the Beatles, plus his excellent photos, make for a great tour. One of the highlights of our trip!

5.00We want to thank Ian, owner of Mad Day Out Beatles Taxi Tour, for the most awesome tour. We spent several hours with Ian on Oct 9, 2025 and the amount of Beatle knowledge and history that he has is incredible. Yes, we hit the lads homes, Penny Lane, the original Strawberry Fields and red gates and then some!! If you are a Beatles fan, Ian and his tour are well worth every penny and we'd do it again in a heartbeat! Cheers to you Ian for a providing us with the most fabulous day and memories of Liverpool. If we could give you 10 stars we would! You're the best!
