Visit the famous Skistho's Dog Shelter up in the hills , pick up a lovely dog and join our experienced 'hiker' guide for a beautiful walk through the hills. Where you will have the opportunity to to enjoy the breath-taking scenery and nature, whilst giving a dog a well deserved walk .
Next stop is Maria's house a Greek local lady who is passionate about Greek food and cooking. You will learn how to cook traditional Greek dishes and you will enjoy a delicious lunch in a peaceful and tranquil surrounding served with local wine , water and soft drinks.

In the midst of the lush hills on the island of Skiathos a group of volunteers have created a haven for stray dogs that are looking for their forever homes. To give the dogs a safe place and a location, that would provide both cool winds during hot summer days, privacy and calmness in the evenings. The local monastery (Evangelistria), has offered a piece of land out of town the Islands Landfill site.
Here at a local residence you will meet a lovely lady called Maria , she will show you how to cook traditional dishes and you will enjoy a delicious lunch together.

5.00We were rather excited to do this trip. Walked a lovely little dog called Stella, very nervous but enjoyed being out. If life permitted I would be moving out here and volunteering at the Skiathos dog shelter. What a great bunch of humans. On for a cookery demo of some traditional Greek dishes by the fabulous Maria, at her taverna, followed by lunch of the same. Cheese pies in filo pastry, stuffed tomatoes and peppers, then some syrupy carrot with Greek yoghurt. Yum. Throw in the hiliarious old school British humour of Michael, our guide, to make for a thoroughly enjoyable day. Would highly recommend getting booked. This trip only runs on a Sunday, so limited spaces.
Do not book this trip with Tui, it's a rip off!!!!!

5.00This dog shelter is well worth a visit, the staff do a tremendous job caring for the dogs and are open to questions from visitors and they are very professional and friendly. Now here's the BUT coming! Do not book this trip through Tui, you are told by the rep that 35 euro is given to the shelter in donation but in fact only 5 euro is given to them. I understand that Tui needs to make some money but for 70 euro per person (you do get a cookery demo and a greek lunch) the cost ratio to the donation and paying for the meal and the transport does not balance out. Definitely in Tui's favour. So if you do book be aware that Tui is getting the bulk of your money and only a pittance to the people providing their services.

5.00If you’re visiting Skiathos and looking to support something truly worthwhile, I can highly recommend Skiathos Dog Shelter 💕 The shelter does an incredible job caring for and rescuing dogs on the island, and the love and dedication from everyone there is amazing to see. Whether you visit, volunteer, donate, walk a dog or simply help spread the word, every little bit of support makes a difference. It’s such a rewarding experience and a lovely way to give something back whilst on holiday. The dogs are beautiful, friendly and so deserving of love and care. Definitely worth supporting if you’re in Skiathos 🐾

5.00We had a lovely day out and particularly enjoyed our walk with the dogs. This was followed by a cooking demonstration and a nice lunch at the taverna. Thanks to Michael our guide.

5.00Brilliant day out! Well organised and a must for dog and food lovers. Great to combine the dog walking in the morning and work up an appetite to enjoy the delicious local freshly prepared food afterwards. Definitely recommend 😊

5.00What a fantastic experience. They do an amazing job with the dogs. The guide - Michael was brilliant and so funny. Went to a taverna after for a cooking lesson and a taste of traditional Greek food. Would highly recommend

5.00The organization of the event was perfect (pick-up, schedule, companion info). The Dog shelter team has chosen the dogs that are right for us. The dogs and we had a lot of fun. Everyone there is doing a great job. Maria's cooking demonstration in her cozy tavern was very informative and casual. The presented dishes ( 3 courses) were served to us afterwards - very delicious. Overall a great and entertaining event for the whole family and absolutely recommendable. Thank you very much

5.00Great day out , the dog shelter is very well run and organised . The dogs are very well cared for and were so excited to go for a walk. We really enjoyed it . They are very grateful of a donation , we took food and put money in the pot. Maria's cookery lesson and lunch was fabulous, she showed us how to cook 3 courses , then we got to eat them. Absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend this trip.

5.00We got the bus from Troulos to the dog shelter. We walked a few different dogs. My teenage daughters loved the experience. The ladies who run the shelter are so friendly. Great experience.

5.00Well organized and a great way to help the local shelter pups. The staff are so dedicated and truly love all of the dogs. The cooking class by Maria was so much fun and the food was delicious. A really lovely way to spend a few hours in Skiathos.
