Soy sauce is an indispensable ingredient in Japanese food. After touring a genuine soy sauce brewery with a history of more than 100 years, visitors will enjoy a hands-on experience of pressing soy sauce from moromi, the base of soy sauce, using a traditional wooden press.
Finish by attaching your own label to the bottle. You will taste the freshly pressed soy sauce, which has not been heated, with fresh tofu on the spot.
[Highlights of the Experience]
Experience at a natural-brewed soy sauce shop that has been in continuous operation for three generations since 1918.
You will also have a chance to try your hand at squeezing soy sauce by hand using our original squeezer.
The squeezed soy sauce is then packaged in bottles and decorated. The squeezed soy sauce is then filled into bottles and decorated to create your own personalized soy sauce.
Mitarashi dumplings with an original sauce made from Tokusei soy sauce in collaboration with a popular local store of long standing.

Founded 105 years ago, Tokusei Soy Sauce has been making soy sauce on the approach to Okadera Temple in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture. After touring the brewery, visitors can use an original press to press their own original soy sauce from the mash. The tour is completed by attaching your own label to the bottle. The freshly pressed soy sauce will be tasted on the spot with tofu from Shimode Tofu in the village. Afterwards, you will be served excellent Mitarashi dumplings with the original sauce made from Tokusei Shoyu's soy sauce.

5.00We had the best time at the soy sauce pressing experience and would highly recommend it. My husband and I ended up being the only ones on our tour, which made the experience very personal. Our guide, Chikara-san, was so knowledgeable about the town of Asuka and told us so many cool pieces of history as we walked through the town. He then did a wonderful job translating the information relayed to us by Yoshida-san, who is a third generation owner and operator of the soy sauce brewery. The learning experience was our favorite part. The pressing was very fun and it was so nice to bring a souvenir with sentimental significance home (which Yoshida-san wrapped thoroughly in bubble wrap to keep them safe!) I highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to learn about the soy sauce making process and Asuka Village. It’s a beautiful, calm place and was one of our favorite stops in our Japan trip. Thank you Chikara-san!

5.00This was a great experience learning about the history of the soy sauce factory and how it is made .We were able to make our own soy sauce and bring a bottle home .Its a great day out from the city and we would highly recommend a visit here .

5.00Fabulous experience with Chikara who took us to Tokuboshi Soy Sauce (Shoyu) for a factory tour. Learnt about soy sauce making using traditional cedar vats, then squeezed our own soy sauce to take home. Fun. Fascinating.

5.00I enjoyed the historical and traditional atmosphere. We were fortunate enough to have a private session of the soy sauce brewing experience. The staffs were excellent and friendly. We had initially arrived to the brewery location but were kindly escorted to souvenir shop to begin the journey.

5.00Amazing experience!! My fiancé and I were the only ones who booked that day so it was pretty much a private event. Very wholesome experience and you definitely get away from the crowds. Highly recommended. Got to squeeze fresh fermented soy bean and got to take it with us essentially as a souvenir. Decorated our own bottle!! When I have soy sauce I will think about this place :)
