Le Marais
Start by understanding the historic importance of the Marais, which once laid beyond the center of Paris. Today, it is at the heart of the city. Discover the Church of Saint Paul and Saint Louis before walking through the courtyard of the majestic Hotel de Sully. Continue experiencing the royal history of the Marais by exploring the pristine Place des Vosges, a public square with unparalleled beauty in Paris. Afterwards, move forward in time to learn all about the bustling Jewish community that put the Marais on the map through the 18th and 19th centuries. Wander the bakeries and boutiques of the Pletzl before strolling the shop-laden rue des Francs Bourgeois. All the while you’ll discover mansion after mansion, former homes to the nobility that once called the Marais home. Some are now museums, like the highly worthwhile Musée Carnavalet. The tour may also introduce you to both the Hotel de Ville, or City Hall, and the Pompidou Center, both architectural masterpieces from very different periods.

5.00We ended up with a private tour of the Marais with Eden as the others who booked did not show. She asked us what our special interests were so she could be sure to address these on our walking tour. She was so knowledgeable and engaging, knew the history as well as more current cultural notes of the Marais. And she was a delight to spend those few hours with. We will seek her out again if possible. And she recommended a great little restaurant for lunch in the Marais! Hope you all get Eden for your guide! It was a very memorable tour!

5.00Alastair was fantastic! Knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. He made the tour a highlight of our visit to Paris. I also really appreciated him making a slight detour to see the high school my Aunt attended many years ago. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of Le Marais.

5.00Only 4 of us on the tour so it was like a private tour. 2.5 hrs flew by and Alisdair was incredible knowledgable in the history of le Marais and the darker side of the history of France. He was animated full of enthusiasm and obviously loved doing tours. 100% worth every penny.
