Great experience! Our guide Francis was the very best! We travelled in a special Van that made the trip easy and I always felt safe and cared for. It was Durring the accent I that I realized I didn’t want to rent a Jeep we needed someone to drive so I could take all the amazing pictures! I learned so much from someone with a unique point of view on the history and current state of the cultural history its current controversies and utilization of its Telescopes for science! I am sensitive to the issues with cultural history but I also am a super science geek and Francis navigated these issues so well—with the good knowledge he shared. We saw everything they said they would share with us and much more. The accent he amazing sunset and we were so blessed the sky was so clear and the amazing Milky Way , they navigated us through the constilations and major stars! Francis was a skilled photographer and he took amazing pictures of everyone and shared the pictures with myself and beyond at no cost! He even shared places to eat and go on the island! So worth the price so we decided to tip him well. Have a great time!

My girlfriend and I had an absolutely unforgettable evening stargazing on Mauna Kea! From the moment our van pulled up right on time, our driver and guide, Wes, set the tone for a perfect experience. He was friendly, welcoming, and full of energy — the kind of person who instantly makes you feel comfortable. Wes was not only funny and informative but also a skilled and careful driver, bringing us safely up and down the mountain’s winding roads. Before heading higher, he gave clear instructions on handling the altitude and what to do in the event of altitude sickness, which made us feel safe and prepared. At the Visitor Center, we enjoyed a delicious BLT sandwich, then continued toward the summit. The sunset was absolutely breathtaking, and Wes made sure we had great photos and warm jackets when the cold set in. Later, under the crystal-clear night sky, we sipped hot cocoa while learning about constellations, spotting planets, and using the telescope. Hearing his stories as someone born and raised in Hawaii — and his deep respect for Mauna Kea — made the night even more special. It was an experience filled with beauty, meaning, and memories we’ll cherish forever.

Must do activity while on the Big Island. I usually like to drive to sites on my own but given warnings that drive was up a pretty steep road requiring a 4 wheel drive, we opted for this tour. Everything went just as described, easy pick up, with nice drive to the first stop at the visitor center with fun commentary from our guide James. He was great from the start, first met him in town at the appointed spot by target but found out he would make another pick up right by our hotel. He was gracious and agreed that we should change our pickup right by our hotel to save time later at drop off. James knew his stuff and was even able to drive us by each telescope, and tell us something about each one. He also took some great pictures which were hoping to get after this review. Last stop up on the mountain was to stargaze, another highlight given a nice clear night and very knowledgeable comments by James. Overall, great tour, highly recommended by someone that doesn’t usually like to do tours.

Beautiful tour, breathtaking views, very kind and competent guide. Dressing in heavy clothes because it is really very cold despite providing you with everything you need
