We will take you to the summit of Mauna Kea to see the sunset and we will do stargazing afterward (not at the summit). Our most unique part is that our guides will take the photo of the sunset and stars for you using their DSLR camera.
All photos are free of charge and you will get it to your smartphone at the end of the tour.

Please note that, depending on any guests get altitude sickness or other conditions, the time spent at the summit and the stargazing location may be adjusted.

Pick up guests from each pick up location starting from Target in Kona. Onizuka Astronomy Complex
Onizuka Visitor Information Station We will take a break at the Onizuka Visitor Center at an altitude of 2,800m or 9,000ft for early dinner and altitude acclimatization. We also change clothes for winter clothes here depending on the weather. Also gift shop is open for guests to purchase the items. (No food or drink sale)

5.00Overall, it was an excellent experience with great time management. The hot chocolate after sunset was a great touch, and we would highly recommend this tour to others. Our guide, Wes, was so knowledgeable and passionate about his work. He took amazing photos and offered helpful suggestions for photo poses. The drive, the schedule, adjusting to the altitude and cold were handled very well and we felt safe throughout.

5.00Very nice trip experience, richness of items included: clouds views, sunset, stars. The tour guide Yoki is a very nice person, and also a good driver and good storyteller of all cultural stories of Mauna Kea. One small drawback is the minivan is a little bit crowded for 12 people. I think 9-10 people will be a better group size.

5.00This was an absolutely awesome experience as we looked at a sky that contained more stars than I've ever seen after walking among some of the most amazing telescopes ever built. The trip up the volcano was also wonderful as our guide, James gave us information not only about the science but also about the cultural and spiritual significance of the area. He was kind and helpful in all ways. So, in short, this was an experience we will never forget!

5.00Had a wonderful experience on our tour. Our guide Yoki was super informative, prepared, kind, and insightful. I loved that the tour company did everything for us and arranged the whole trip. I also loved the little extra niceties like the hot coco, the sandwiches, and the night time photos at the end of the night. I would definitely do this again and I would certainly recommend it.

5.00Simply amazing! This was easily a five-star experience. Seeing the sunset from Mauna Kea Summit was incredibly memorable and remarkable. We were then ushered to a stargazing session where Yoki (our guide) and his partner knowledgeably pointed out the stars and constellations. The whole night was magical and the entire activity was well coordinated. Yoki (our guide) was engaging and accommodating, eager to ensure we have a great experience. I would highly recommend this activity and Hawaiian Eyes.
