See medieval Prague through the eyes of a 17th-century Nightwatchman. Armed with lantern and halberd, he walks you through dark streets, explaining daily life as he knew it — plainly, humorously, and without academic lectures. This is true history, sometimes funny, sometimes bloody, always based on real events — no legends or ghost stories.

The tour is led by a trained Nightwatchman who represents Prague in the European Nightwatchman Guild, a historical guild preserving authentic Nightwatchman traditions.

Starting at the Powder Gate, the Nightwatchman leads you through the Old Town as it once was: a city shaped by class differences, strict laws, public punishments, wars, fires, and plague.

Expect witty observations, blunt opinions, and uncomfortable truths. This tour is for curious travelers who want real history told in an unusual, human way, not a list of dates and names — and who don’t mind that history was sometimes harsh, unfair, and violent.

At the start of our tour we introduce the old Powder Gate, one of the 13 gates that protected Prague. Built in the 15th Century and storing also the gun powder since 17th century, which gives the gate its name.

The hour and a half flew by. Our guide, Thomas, was funny, engaging and very well informed. We found out a lot about the city. It was a highlight of our long weekend in Prague and, if we had the time, we would go on their other tour. We did an evening tour, which was very atmospheric and he had the full interest of our teenagers as well as us adults.

We did the Night Watchman Tour in Prague with David and it was absolutely amazing. David was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and full of fascinating stories that brought Prague’s history to life. The tour had a great atmosphere from start to finish, and David made it feel both informative and fun. He shared details we would never have learned on our own, and his storytelling made the experience really memorable. If you’re visiting Prague and want something unique, memorable, and well guided, I’d highly recommend this tour. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

The Nightwatchman of Prague was incredible, outstanding and the best tour in Prague! Don’t think twice, just book this tour…It's a must do when in Prague! I actually joined both of their different tours, and I was also lucky to have David, a superb storyteller, fun, friendly and helpful guide hosting me on both experiences. The tours were the most memorable experiences of my Prague trip. Walking through Prague at night, protected by a nightwatchman doing his rounds, while hearing stories of medieval crime, strange punishments, and life in old Prague felt incredibly immersive, especially with the off-beaten track locations. All this helped me feel like I was stepping into another century.. What impressed me most was the storytelling. The guide doesn’t just list historical facts, he truly brings the city’s past to life. As someone who also guides for a living, I can tell you hand on heart you’re in for a treat… I found myself completely absorbed. If you’re visiting Prague, and want a quality experience, do yourself a favour and book it. I highly recommend this experience… and if you can, don’t think twice….Book and join both tours! :)

Thomas was our guide, he did a phenomenal job! My boyfriend and I were the only ones on the tour that night, he still made it fun and engaging for us. We definitely recommend!

The tour guide was super knowledgeable. No one else was there on the tour, so we essentially got a private tour. I recommend this tour to anyone visiting Prague. The city at nighttime is quite pretty.

From the moment we began the tour, Oscar had us captivated. He maintained the character of a nightwatchman throughout the whole tour. He provided insight for life in Prague during the troubled times of Nightwatchmen, bringing history alive at each location we stopped at. My husband was sick that evening and sadly missed out on what was possibly on of the best history tours I've been on. It was a bit like "Horrible Histories" but so much better.

Oscar is a wonderful night watchman who took very good care of us and our safety at night. Very well armed and illuminated, it was a real pleasure to walk with him through the dark chapters of Prague history, to be amazed, to scare and to be afraid..... And always feeling protected.
