Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This canyoneering and packrafting tour visits route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore a part of the canyon that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. We'll also use one-person, inflatable boats (packrafts) to enjoy a scenic float along the Colorado River. These boats are fun, unique and not used by any other company in Moab.
The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon and float a beautiful section of the Colorado River, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

Arrive at Desert Highlights in the morning (pick-up available upon request) where your guide will outfit you with all of the necessary gear for canyoneering and rafting. We'll drive your group to the start of the canyon and hike across ancient sand dunes to our first rappel. Desert Highlights has experienced and knowledgeable guides that will literally "show you the ropes", ensuring your safety and teaching you everything you need to know to descend the canyon safely. After 2 exhilarating rappels and a beautiful hike out, we'll hop in the van and drive along the Colorado River. We'll have a chance to eat lunch, talk about river safety and choose the best put-in based on your groups abilities and goals for the afternoon. We'll soon launch on the river and float through rapids or enjoy a scenic flat-water float - whichever your heart desires! This tour is suitable for beginner and experienced canyoneers alike. We are extremely passionate about our backyard and you'll gain knowledge and respect for our desert environment while out on your Moab canyoneering adventure with Desert Highlights!

5.00my wife and i hired the folks at desert highlights for their combo trip to entrajo canyon and packrafting. what a great experience. our guide was very competent, well trained, friendly and generally did an amazing job. she helped my wife with the technical parts of the canyoneering as she lacked climbing experience. she made my wife feel safe, comfortably and ensured a fun time. i would definitely hire them again and would recommend them to others too.
The BEST full day and overnight adventure! A must do!

5.00An absolute must do!! The BEST guided trip we've been on!! Melissa and Herb at Desert Highlights are wonderful and super helpful and accommodating. Melissa helped us put together a custom trip for our family of six and then spent lots of time answering our questions as we prepared for our trip. Our guide, Kai, is the BEST guide ever! We spent a full day of canyoning and packrafting, followed by a night of camping at the most incredible location. Every detail was thought of, prepared, and taken care of and we were able to relax, explore and fully enjoy every minute. The meals and snacks were all delicious, the canyoning and packrafting were spectacular, and we felt safe and in good hands every minute. We cannot recommend Desert Highlights, Kai, and this trip enough. Adventure of a lifetime! Thank you Desert Highlights!

5.00Second time with Desert Highlights and I don't think I would ever use another tour service. We went canyoneering with Ed, our tour guide, and had an amazing time. Clear instructions, historical knowledge and a great hang, we really had a fantastic day. Saftey is their number one concern and we always felt secure on each repel. Highly recommend Desert Highlights to anyone visiting MOAB and looking for adventure.

5.00This was a fun tour for us and the kids (who are 16, 18, 20) had a great time. Jake was a great guide along with his wife Kai, who joined us for the river part. We also did a lunch that they provided and it was fresh and delicious. We did canyoneering in the morning , lunch and then packrafting on the Colorado River, it was running pretty fast and quite high but the guides made us feel safe and secure. We do have some kayaking experiences so it wasn't totally new to us. The views were amazing. Highly recommend this tour.

5.00My husband and I had an incredible experience in Moab because of Desert Highlights. We hired the guides for canyoneering, hiking, and Pack rafting and they were so experienced and fun. We felt safe on the rock climbs and the repels and had gained lots of knowledge about the canyons and landscape by them guiding us. We had three guides and all were exceptional. We would highly recommend Desert Highlights for anyone wanting adventure in Moad. Great job team,

5.00We definitely recommend Desert Highlights! This trip was the highlight of our weeklong trip to Utah! The Entrajo canyon and Colorado River packrafting was an amazing day that we will remember warmly for a decades! Our guide (Jake) was an informative, organized and encouraging coach shared his outdoor passions and leadership skills with our family of four.

5.00Our family of 5 went on the zig zag canyoneering trip with Kiera and the 1/2 day pack rafting trip with Jake and Kai. Both trips were awesome and Desert Highlights was a wonderful company to work with. Kai helped me decide on the best trips for our family and took the time to answer all of my questions. I talked to two other tour companies but I am so glad we decided on Desert Highlights. The private tours they offer are amazing and it was very evident how much the guides enjoy their jobs and treat each other like family.

5.00If you've come this far to read the reviews, don't stop there - book this tour with Desert Highlights now and get ready for an amazing and rewarding adventure. From the first phone call with Melissa in the office, to the last goodbye with our guide, Kai, this experience was amazing and one our family won't soon (ever) forget. Kai strikes the perfect balance between patience, encouragement, and confidence building. She somehow has a way of making the seemingly impossible infinitely possible, but also appropriately challenging. If you are looking for a full day (or more!) of adventure with a company that truly seems to care about your experience, look no further than Desert Highlights. For the rest of our time in Moab, when hiking or climbing, we often found our family members saying to each other - "What Would Kai Do?" - when confronted with a climbing challenge, not to mention the fact that we followed her advice on a number of dining options, and none of those disappointed either!
