  We had an incredible experience with JBE Tours Nicaragua exploring the Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve—hands down one of the best things to do near Granada. From a unique wildlife sanctuary experience to a breathtaking cloud forest hike, this tour perfectly blends nature, conservation, and adventure. One of the most unique parts of the tour was how it started at the biological reserve station, which felt like a living museum of biodiversity and conservation. We were welcomed by Estela, the leader of the biological reserve, whose passion and expertise immediately stood out. This area functions as a butterfly, reptile, and amphibian sanctuary, where we had an up-close wildlife experience seeing butterflies, frogs, and beautiful native lizards. Estela explained how these species are protected and why they are so critical to the ecosystem, giving us a deeper appreciation for the conservation efforts behind the reserve. It was such a meaningful way to begin—grounding us in the native biodiversity of the Mombacho cloud forest before heading out on the trail. We weren’t just hiking—we truly understood what we were seeing and why it matters. We then did a moderate (medium-level) hike along the Tigrillo Trail, moving through both what they called a “dead forest” and lush cloud forest environments, with stunning viewpoints overlooking Granada and Lake Nicaragua. The scenery constantly changed and felt incredibly immersive. Our local guide was outstanding—friendly, engaging, and deeply knowledgeable. He explained what plants are edible, how the ecosystem functions, and made sure we didn’t miss any details along the way. One of the highlights was spotting a perezoso (sloth)—such a special and memorable moment. In addition to the hike, we also experienced a coffee tour, which added another layer to the day and gave us a deeper appreciation for Nicaragua’s local coffee culture. The tour was extremely well organized, with seamless logistics and a great pace. We also stopped at Las Flores Café, part of a local coffee roastery, which was a perfect way to relax and enjoy authentic Nicaraguan coffee in a beautiful setting.   This tour was the highlight of our Nicaragua trip! The hike through Mombacho's cloud forest was stunning, with incredible views and a knowledgeable guide who pointed out unique wildlife. The ziplining adventure was an absolute blast - soaring over the canopy was exhilarating and offered a completely different perspective of the volcano. Professional guides, seamless organization, and unforgettable memories. Highly recommend for anyone seeking adventure near Granada!
