Thrangu Tashi Monastery

The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery about 40 km southeast of Nepal's capital city Kathmandu and 2.3km from Manegaun, a Tamang/Dalit village. It lies at the top of the hill in shyampati vdc. Aka Namo Buddha is fourth most important Buddhist sanctuary after Lumbini, Swoyambhunath, Bouddhanath in Nepal.

    The monastery is truly superb. You can sleep there, have dinner and breakfast in the refectory with the monks and attend morning prayers in the main temple. A rich and unforgettable experience

    Driver was amazing. After the monastery we took the valley drive which was spectacular then stopped at the large shiva statue. Even had a traditional Nepali lunch before driving back thru backroads to avoid major traffic. Got to see parts of Kathmandu I never would have seen and experience local neighborhoods.
