There is so much to see of Qatar beyond the city. You'll head out of Doha to see Qatar's history in its Northern areas, starting with a visit to the Al- Khor Harbor, a former rich center for the local pearl and fishing industries. It continues to be a busy port full of fishermen hard at work. Next stop is at Al Thakira is your next stop, and this beautiful expanse of natural greenery, full of mangroves and glorious waterways. It's a lovely paradise in the middle of the desert.You then head to the Zubarah Fort, which is a historic military fort that hold numerous artifacts as well as a site of significance in Qatari culture.

Al Khor

Al Khor is a coastal city in northern Qatar, located 50 kilometers north of the capital, Doha. Considered one of Qatar's largest cities. Al Khor is home to many employees of the oil industry due to its proximity to Qatar's northern oil and natural gas fields and to Ras Laffan Industrial City. It is one of the proposed venues for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The North Qatar tour is really a must to learn more about the country. The countryside is different from what you see in the city. The travel was on time and well organised in a small group with a fantastic guide Rehan. The pick up and return was also very appreciated.

The tour was great and well organized. Our guide Adnan was great. There is no dedicated lunch stop so recommend packing something. Our guide made a stop as we left Doha and recommended we packed lunch which was good.

We are writing this summary a few days after our return to Bulgaria. On 27.11.2025 we had a half-day tour of Northern Qatar. They picked us up from the hotel, then we took the highway north of Doha. The first point on the program was Al Khor, one of the largest cities in Qatar. It is noticeable that new buildings are being built in the city, and facilities are being improved. Al Khor has the appearance of a modern city, unlike the past, when it was known for its pearl mining and its port with fishing boats and vessels. The Purple Island is another interesting place that we visited with our tour guide Sajid. The island is uninhabited. Here you can observe marine species and take a canoe trip. It is connected to the mainland by a wooden path surrounded by mangrove forests. After taking nice photos and videos, we headed to Al Zubara Fort. We saw that the fort had thick walls, four towers, and there was also a well for drinking water, but over time it dried up. Today, the premises of Al Zubara serve as a museum. From the materials placed in the rooms, one can learn about the life of people in Qatar in the 18th-19th centuries. After exploring the fort, we asked our guide to take us to “Shadows Traveling on the Sea of Day,” created by the Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. The twenty round shelters seem scattered across the desert landscape, but they are arranged according to the axes of a pentagonal pattern. Ten of them, which are in the center, form a pentagram, and the lower sides of the round roofs are covered with mirror panels. Everything we saw on the half-day tour was very interesting for us. We thank Golden Adventures for their assistance in making the excursion possible. Super pleasant experience. Gives you a little idea of the surroundings of Doha. Abdullah our driver/ tour guide did an outstanding job. Shared lots of useful information on land, culture and people. Certainly can recommend to anyone.

Didn’t even show up. Never responded to my message on when pickup will be or even a message day before. Highly recommend picking another tour company

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - The Good: 1) Van was air conditioned and refreshments were provided. 2) Interesting tour itinerary. The Bad: 1) Tour guide was not enthusiastic with minimal information (sat on phone during stops). 2) Pre-trip communication was poor / last minute. 3) No information shared beyond signs at stops. 4) Odd detour at fish market where group was left to wander. The Ugly: 1) Tour was advertised to be 4-5 hours but was 6.5 hours (no warning provided by guide) which caused delays to later booked activities for ourselves and other travelers. We enjoyed the opportunity to see Qatar beyond Doha, but this tour did not meet our expectations.
