Overall, the itinerary itself was relatively enjoyable: Helmsley and Whitby were great towns and our drive-by sites were interesting, but the timing could have been improved upon. We needed more time in Helmsley, there were no stops with food during lunch time, and there was an excessive amount of drive time through the moors. The train ride was incredibly disappointing and a major waste of time. Unfortunately, what really spoiled this experience was the host. While he had interesting information to share, it was almost all about flora and fauna with very little deviation in topic. He talked consistently throughout the 8 hour day and had a very dry and boring presentation style. This was worsened when, after multiple complaints about the temperature of the bus, he spent very little effort attempting to control the AC and did not seem to care about the discomfort of the guests. This also showed in his jerky driving style on the already uncomfortable bumpy roads of the moors (if I have one piece of advice: bring Dramamine!!).

The travel time from York to Goathland leaves no time even for a quick photo stop which if youre a fan of Heartbeat was so disappointing. Shame the steam train was swapped to a diesel so this was rubbish too it was one of the reasons i booked this trip.

The organisation is the trip was flawless. The guide John was nice informative and well spoken. The trip is jam packed but not too extenuating.

This tour is a great way to see the North Yorkshire area. We took it specifically for the stop in Whitby, and our only disappointment was that 2 hours is not enough time tos we Whitby Abbey and then the town, as well as to get some lunch. Our guide was Trevor, and his depth of knowledge was impressive. He especially knows agriculture and nature, which added interesting tidbits to the drive in spots where things could have gotten boring. Overall we are glad we booked this tour and glad we got Trevor as our guide!
