Picturesque Keswick is the northern Lake District’s focal point and counts mighty Skiddaw Mountain and majestic Derwent Water as its neighbours. The historic market town struck it rich with local mining, including the graphite that for a time made Keswick the world’s pencil capital. The Lake Poets were inspired by its beauty and made the town fashionable before the Victorians arrived by train and left their indelible stamp.

On this walking tour, you’ll travel through the historical periods that define the town we see today. There are several short stops along the way where tour producer Martin Wilson will tell you more about the area and its attractions. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants, and bars along the route for refreshments.

Nice but OK Not like london busses are not that frequent, tracks are not maintained, Lake boat service is great, food is nice

This was a great experience. The route was well planned, easy to follow and we were soon put right if we took a wrong turn. The audio guide was really clear, informative and very interesting. We learnt so much about the history of Keswick through its buildings and landmarks. Best of all, we walked through streets and parks we would otherwise have missed and also found a few places we might revisit. Cannot recommend this highly enough!

A very enjoyable walking tour of Keswick discovering different parts of the town that we didn’t know existed and learning all about the fascinating history. The length and pace of the tour are just right with a stunning ending by the lake. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting this lovely town.
