The hike was challenging but rewarding! You can rent a lot of things from them (boots, backpack, poles). In the base camp, we split in two groups because of the clouds at Fuego - Acatenago summit and Fuego hikes. We did the latter one. Doing both would be too challenging so I’m happy with how we ended up doing it. The Fuego hike is extra $40, you can pay for it at their office before the hike . The entrance fee for the mountains is 100 Guatemalan currency (no matter what company you’re booking with). The brothers know their thing. Definitely recommend.

Great experience overall. Hike was challenging but the guides were always there with you. Although much of the hike and seeing the eruptions is based on luck and the weather, the tour guides were knowledgeable enough to make very accurate predictions about what the best options are. Although it was projected to rain during our hike, it was actually pretty clear until we got to base camp. Around sunset, the fog cleared up and we could see fuego erupt from camp. However, weather conditions change quickly up there and visibility became low again before our scheduled Fuego hike. To adapt, our guide suggested that we do a Fuego sunrise hike instead at 2 am as conditions would for sure be clear. Another group had the option of doing the Acatenango sunrise hike. Weather conditions were perfect for us. Base camp was decent. Fuego hike price was more thane expected so be aware.

I would say, everything could be better. Communication before the hike and in the morning was very poor. They didnt answer on whats app and in the morning we arrived earlier to get some info, but they didnt let us in. Even when everyone showed up, we had to wait like they don’t want to share any info . After the hike we had to wait around 1 h for a bus to go back to Antigua.. Food was okay Our guide was very nice In my opinion the timing was not the best, we could leave earlier and watch fuego not in a total darkness. Another thing is extra fees for everything. When you’re paying here, keep in mind that you still need to pay on spot for: 300 q fuego hike 100q entrance Of course you need to rent poles 100q and headlamp for 50q. I would say its mandatory. In total 550 q extra and 10% fees for paying card. Just keep in mind. We had few cases in a group that they got wrong location the day before the hike and they were almost left out. Another case is special dietary meal. They promise to accommodate it but in fact the changes are so poor and you have to tell them 300 times to get it for you. For me, maybe next time I would pick better company.

When we were going up they started to drink, so imagine 60 of us started with 3 guides and 2 completely drunk. 1 person kept going down with those who quit, so technically only 2 guide with the group. Then one guide hooking up with one of the travelers. Basically money hunger, bc as soon as you start there are others going down from the same group, asking if you wanna go down and they charge your 500 quetzal. But when we were going down, they were all plastered, going super fast down and didnt care that the rest of going down slower.

I had a disappointing experience overall with this hike, which is frustrating because the volcano itself is absolutely gorgeous. Communication leading up to the trip was essentially nonexistent. The day before, they confirmed via WhatsApp that I was on the hike, but after that they didn’t respond to any of my questions. I asked about how much water to bring and got no answer. And would have followed it up with how much cash I would need, and rental costs, none of which were clearly listed on their website. Going into something like this without basic information is not a great start. There were also a lot of hidden or unclear costs. For example, dinner is technically “included,” but you are required to bring an extra liter of water just to prepare it, and it ends up being a small bowl of pasta and a cup of hot chocolate, what all the extra water is for is anyone’s guess. Park entrance is fee is 100Q, which I was able to google, but the optional Fuego hike was 400Q cash- each, and as you can imagine, there are no ATMs on the mountain. Porter pricing was another issue. I was initially told 400Q total, 200 up and 200 down, but halfway up the mountain the porter stopped us and demanded 350Q on the spot for one way. When I asked the guide, he said it should be 300Q. I ended up having to mediate between them to settle it. Being put in that position, on a mountain and reliant on these people, is uncomfortable and not something guests should have to deal with. The organization of the trip itself felt sloppy. Our cabin was already tight with sleeping arrangements for 8 people, which was expected for a budget option, but then they added 2 more at the last minute. That turned it from cramped but manageable into genuinely uncomfortable, very literally elbow to elbow on both sides all night. The guides were also not very present or helpful. One person in our group described them as “spirits, sometimes they are here, sometimes they are not,” which felt pretty accurate. There were multiple instances where people got separated and the group had to stop and wait while the guides figured out where they were. Timing was another major issue. We were supposed to leave at 3am for the Acatenango summit to catch sunrise, but the guides delayed until 4am. By the time we started hiking, the trail was crowded and we effectively missed the sunrise, which is one of the main reasons people do this hike. To give some credit, the base camp location had incredible views, and the sandwich on the first day was actually very good. Overall, I understand this is a budget option and I was not expecting luxury, but basic organization, clear communication, and not overbooking should be the minimum. The mountain is worth it, but I would strongly recommend going with a different company.

Good experience with Marvin and Franklin, the pasta we dined was very rich, campfire with chocolates and chocolate, breakfast was basic but very rich too, overall I think the cost-benefit quality is very good. The only comment I have is that when we came down from the volcano suddenly the group broke up a little and those of us who came behind ran out of guidance at times because they were already ahead and it was night. I actually recommend the agency, I booked my tour online, prior to my arrival and all ok and they always answered all my messages via IG and WA.
