Such an incredible experience. I’d highly recommend this trip to anyone that is looking to climb Acatenango and Fuego. Made some incredible friends and memories on this trip. We also got really lucky with some of the best guides we could have asked for in Diego, Che, and Derby. Brothers Expeditions HQ is located in Antigua. We met there around 7:50 AM where we were able to leave our belongings before taking a shuttle over to another spot where we were able to get our rental gear and pay for the extra Fuego hike. You can rent shoes, bag, hiking poles, and headlamp from here. They also have some extra jackets and sweaters for you to use here as well. Those didn't cost us extra. Something to note is that if you do have bigger feet there were not many options in terms of boots so I would recommend bringing your own if you have bigger feet think 10.5/11 US and above. Some other things you need to bring with you are at least 3L of water, a roll of toilet paper, and some snacks which you can grab from one of the many stores around town. You can grab some snacks, water, beer, etc on many stops up the volcano, but it is more expensive. After getting kitted up at the second stop, they gave us our lunch for the day, and then we took another shuttle over to the base of the hike entrance. We were given some extra gear here such as headlamps and poles if you didn't already receive them and then we split up into two groups. After this we started the hike up to basecamp. We took about 4-5hrs to get to basecamp, including the many stops along the way. We rested here for a couple hours before starting off for Fuego (which is an optional hike). We started in the dark and unfortunately for us we had a lot of cloud cover, but Diego, Che, and Derby gave us extra time to wait right below the ridge until it cleared up so we can see Fuego erupt. That was insane!! This was definitely the coldest part of the hike and I would recommend you bring a good jacket for this part and maybe some gloves, although they do provide some thin gloves for you to use and those were good enough. After watching it erupt for 30 minutes or so we made it back to basecamp just before 12:30 AM . They had pasta prepped for us, we ate, and went to sleep. Sleeping was a bit tight, for us it was a platform with 8 sleeping bags next to each other. I think the layout was slightly different in each cabin, but it was honestly pretty comfortable... way better then a tent and warm. Everyone in our cabin got pretty close to each other on the hike up so it wasn't bad at all. We slept for an hour and a half before waking up at 3:30 AM to hike up Acatenango (again optional). Note: I stayed up a bit later so others got some more sleep then I did, and we got back from Fuego a bit later than anticipated because of the clouds so you may get a bit more sleep then what we got. This hike took about an hour and a half. The trail was a lot looser on this hike and honestly because of how tired I was from the previous day of hiking it felt a lot more difficult, but you get breaks and it goes pretty quick. You get the most INSANE view from the top where you can see Fuego erupting and several other mountains/volcanoes with the sun rising behind them. Truly unforgettable. After being up there for a bit you make your way back down to basecamp where you have breakfast and then start for your hike down the mountain where you eventually take the shuttle back to the main HQ and get your things. It was an unforgettable experience with an unforgettable group and I would HIGHLY recommend you book with Brothers Expeditions.

I had an amazing experience with Brothers Expedition on the tour to Acatenango volcano and Fuego volcano. From the start, the whole team was very friendly and organized. The guides, especially John, Darwin and Rogi, did an excellent job: always attentive, attentive to the safety and well-being of all. Thanks to them I never felt alone during the whole experience. The food was delicious and everything exceeded my expectations. Undoubtedly a spectacular and unforgettable experience. Super recommended! 🙌

Honestly, it was the best experience of my life! The volcano is stunning, the food was delicious and the guides are excellent (especially Franklin and Black Bunny). I recommend it to everyone. The only thing is that the hike from the camp to the Fire is difficult and quite steep, so you need good shoes

I booked through my Hostel The guides were great, they encouraged us in addition to being super dynamic it makes all the difference during this type of hike. Possibility to rent equipment on site but it is good to have its own "base layers" since there is not everything either. Beautiful gang and beautiful encampment with magnificent views of the volcano. Super friendly, young and enthusiastic staff. Thank you very much for the experience!
