Hierapolis ("Holy City") was an ancient Greco-Roamn city in Phrygia located on hot springs in South West Anatolia. Its ruins are adjacent to maodern Pamukkale.
Hierapolis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hot springs there have been used as a spa since the 2nd Century B.C.E. and people came to soothe their ailments with many of them retiring or dying here.

Some of the highlights; the large necropolis is filled with sarcophagi, the main street with the gates and latrines, cathedral, the theatre and St. Philips tomb. The hot springs causing cascades which are called the Cotton Castle. Because of the distance we have to leave Antalya early and return late but its worth it to experince this wonderful place.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about this tour. It was one of the most disappointing experiences of my trip. First, the listing mentions Cleopatra’s Pool three times – including in the tour title – but it was closed when we arrived. That’s a major part of why we booked this in the first place, and there was no warning or update from the company in advance. As for Pamukkale itself: the photos are incredibly misleading. Most of the travertine terraces are completely dried up, the few with water are packed with people, and much of it is roped off and inaccessible. You’re required to go barefoot on sharp limestone rock, which is not only painful but dangerous for some. The advertised 3-hour drive turns into 6+ hours each way because of unnecessary and scammy stops. First, a “breakfast” stop, then an Onyx shop stop where they pretend it’s an educational tour – it’s not. It’s a hard sell for overpriced “gemstones” and the guide is clearly getting commission. Total scam. Lunch is included, but don’t even try to bring your own water – someone in our group got yelled at for that. We didn’t arrive at Pamukkale until 12:30pm – just in time for peak heat and massive crowds. Once there, the guide immediately tries to upsell you on paragliding or helicopter rides (again, for inflated prices where she clearly gets a cut). Our guide Dilek may seem friendly, but she was constantly pushing scams and upsells the entire day. She even offered to take people away from Pamukkale early to visit a so-called “real Burberry” outlet that obviously sells fake goods. It was completely inappropriate and misleading. In summary: 🚫 Cleopatra’s Pool closed 🚫 Pamukkale overcrowded and dried up 🚫 Scam stops (Onyx shop, fake Burberry store) 🚫 Aggressive upselling by the guide 🚫 Dishonest advertising from start to finish If you really want to visit Pamukkale, rent a car and go yourself. This tour was a complete waste of time and money.

It wasn't until the trip had started that we found out that one of the three places to Visit (Cleopatra's pool, and the main point of going) was closed. This meant that we spent a full three hours at Pamukkale with very little shade. It also took almost 6 hours to get there by the time we had rest stops and lunch. I know it isn't the fault of the tour company, but the roads are dreadful so strap yourself in for a bumpy ride. I also wasn't impressed that the minivan ran out of water before we reached our destination.

We had a great time even though the cleopatra’s pool is under repair and was never mention in the trip details, . Dilek was very knowledge and friendly. I highly recommend her to guide your trip . She is a really happy person. Do not hesitate to take her as your trip guide . You should come with beach shoes. It is hard to walk in the terrace.

We enjoyed our tour. It was well organized, very nice lunch at a beautiful restaurant by Pamukkale. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time for exploring Hierapolis on our own as we spent all three hours on Pamukkale pools’ side of the attraction. Our guide, Wish, was very enthusiastic and entertaining as well as knowledgeable and welcoming. Recommend:))
