Hierapolis ("Holy City") was an ancient  Greco-Roamn city in Phrygia located on hot springs in South West Anatolia. Its ruins are adjacent to maodern Pamukkale.

Hierapolis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hot springs there have been used as a spa since the 2nd Century B.C.E. and people came to soothe their ailments with many of them retiring or dying here.

Some of the highlights; the large necropolis is filled with sarcophagi, the main street with the gates and latrines, cathedral, the theatre and St. Philips tomb. The hot springs causing cascades which are called the Cotton Castle. Because of the distance we have to leave Antalya early and return late but its worth it to experince this wonderful place.

begining to end for base approax walking time over 45 min with theatre visit

We enjoyed our tour. It was well organized, very nice lunch at a beautiful restaurant by Pamukkale. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time for exploring Hierapolis on our own as we spent all three hours on Pamukkale pools’ side of the attraction. Our guide, Wish, was very enthusiastic and entertaining as well as knowledgeable and welcoming. Recommend:))

Our tour guide Chill and bus driver Dawood made the long trip to Pamukkale so much better, with their warmth and knowledge of the region. Thanks to them the long journey from Antalya to Pamukkale, surprisingly wasn't as tiring. We stopped an hour from Antalya for breakfast since we had left very early in the morning. We then stopped at an Zultanite showroom and from there, very close to the showroom, was our lunch stop. Which turned out to be a very lavish buffet, overseeing beautiful gardens and fields. After lunch we went to Pamukkale and Hieropolis. Both are in the same vicinity. Pamukkale is on the slopes and we have to walk bare feet in the pools. The pools are quite slippery and can hurt your feet due to the hard calcium deposits. We were not allowed to even wear booties. We walked all the way down to the last pool. Looking back up from there, to the place where we started from, the whole place seemed like a snow clad hill . Its such an amazing experience. We walked back up carefully to the ruins of Hieropolis which are far and spread out. We visited the ones close to the pools and also climbed the hill where the theater is located. The views from here are spectacular. Sunglasses and a cap is recommended while visiting Pamukkale. I was very happy all the way back to Antalya knowing that I'd finally visited Pamukkale.

Trip was well planned with sufficient time for the activities. Special thanks to Dilek, our guide, for managing and maintaining timelines. She kept us enagaged throughout the trip, has excellent knowledge of Turkish history and global cultures. Lunch near Pammukale was very good. It was a long trip of almost 13 hours but it is worth.
