  I visited this museum with a school group studying the conflict in Northern Ireland. The exhibit presents the history of The Troubles through the lens of the Bogside community, making it both accessible and meaningful for me as an adult and for my students (ages 14–18). The museum emphasizes three local community members who helped broker the Good Friday Agreement. It thoughtfully traces their journeys from the conflict to peacemaking, while also highlighting the roles played by women, young people, and ordinary citizens who worked steadily toward peace. I was especially struck by the museum’s opening statement, which references the The Principles for Remembering in a Public Space. As a history teacher, I appreciate this acknowledgment. It reflects a careful, reflective approach to public memory and signals that the museum views peacemaking not simply as a historical outcome, but as an ongoing responsibility.

  Really interesting and very informative. Loads and loads of informative artefacts and videos to see. This is a must for people wanting to learn about the troubles from the 80's onwards. Please visit the free Derry museum first before visiting here ( that's from the 60's to the early 80's. )

  There is a lot of information to take in and it's so hard to believe it was not so long ago either! Well set up and staff were very helpful. Be prepared there is a lot reading to do!!

  An informative and challenging insight into the key players involved in the Peace Process. Brilliantly laid out with thought-provoking installations offering a non-biased retelling of a recent time in history. Friendly staff who were more than happy to chat after our visit to give their experiences of living through ‘The Troubles’. A truly outstanding museum!

  Even though we had to go through the museum quickly, it was very informative and very well presented. The past for Derry has been troubling and nice to see this museum with a strong focus on reconciliation and a positive future.

  Excellent local museum with knowledgeable and informative staff clearly passionate about the exhibition. Deepened our understanding of life in Derry during the troubles and the peace process. Do give yourselves plenty of time as there is lots to see and hear. We stopped for lunch in the fantastic cafe both in terms of quality, quantity and value for money.

  This is a very powerful and thorough provoking collection of stories from what was a very hard time within our country! Growing up during this period, I had witnessed many daily dark events but knew no different! I ( I lived in Belfast) Walking around the museum stirred memories that I thought had been long gone! I was physically and emotionally overwhelmed but delighted I went and would recommend any visitors to Derry to make time to pay a visit!

  Very informative exhibition using various media and also highlighting lesser known aspects and perspectives (for instance, I did not know about the Dirty Protest in the female prison before my visit). Recommend the booklet as well, gives a comprehensive yet compact overview of the Troubles. Lovely staff as well :)
