• Take a Break from the Georgetown Scene for a 5-Star Cycling and Cultural Experience Through the Villages of Penang

  Everything about this adventure is 5-star! Outstanding pre-trip communication; prompt, friendly transportation to / from hotel; quality of the bicycles; small group size; excellent experience riding through varied landscapes and terrain; and, a nice tour-ending lunch in the "wild" of the rice paddies. Finally, there has been a great WhatsApp group available for the week after the tour to share photos and memories of the experience. Tour guide an business owner Princilia really made the tour special, as did her right hand man, J. Her knowledge of the local people and communities through which we rode was incredible - it seems that she knew everyone personally, so many friendly waves and greetings from dozens of villagers and folks riding by on motorbikes. She even knew the crew "boss" whose team we encountered working in the palm plantation. This is a testament to her business model of giving back to, and supporting, the people and communities which are so central to the experience. The ride was quite manageable, initially from village to village along shady bike paths, then through a working palm plantation on dirt and gravel pathways, finishing on small roads through the mangrove swamps. Total distance covered was about 23 KM, with very little change in elevation. We encountered more birds than you can imagine, monkeys, a large monitor lizard, and, of course, many wonderful local villagers who welcomed us into their villages, shops, and workplaces. We will definitely put another tour with Princilia and her team on our schedule next time we visit Panang, and will recommend that all of our friends who visit do so as well.

  

  

  

  

• Nice to get out of George Town

  Nice ride in the countryside. Guide was informative and stopped often to share information. We even sampled some of the local products. Nice stop for done refreshments. Ride was easy as flat.

  It was outstanding! We biked and learned about the Penang culture at stops along the way. Safety was key and it was very clear the guides knew and shared details that were not expected like touring a village house, leaning the benefits of rice, coffee and tea with native snacks, the many parts of a nutmeg and one if the best parts, having an authentic Malaysian lunch in the middle of a rice paddy! And we thought we were just biking... The bikes were top notch and I appreciated the details of having our names on our bikes, water bottles and even the straps of tge helmets cleaned. I highly recommend it!

  Excellent outing. Thanks very much to Princilia and her crew. I learned a lot about Malaysian/Penang culture in the few hours I spent on this tour. I recommend it and would do another tour with Matahari. Great coffee and snacks. Thanks again.

  We had a wonderful experience and can’t say enough positive things. Princiliar was incredibly informative and approachable, always happy to answer questions and share her knowledge in a way that felt easy to understand and engaging. Her genuine kindness and friendliness made everyone feel welcome from the start. What really stood out was her clear passion for both the environment and the people around her. It was inspiring to see how much she and her co-workers care and how committed they are to giving back to the local community. Princiliar related effortlessly to individuals while also connecting with the group as a whole, making everyone feel seen and included. On top of all that, she has a great sense of humor that kept things fun and enjoyable throughout. A truly positive, authentic, and memorable experience. Thank you to the whole team.   Matahari Cycling Tours is uniquely fabulous. The mix of cycling expertise, deep local knowledge about the human culture and natural world, and longstanding relationships with people across the gorgeous landscape we cycled through makes a day with Priscilla and SJ and their team exactly what we were looking for.   I judge travel experiences by a simple metric: Return on Investment for my time. The Penang Countryside Tour with Matahari Cycle Tours & Travel delivered immense value. My wife and I are fitness enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on cultural depth or food quality. Finding an operator who can balance these three elements is rare. Princillia and SJ nailed it. They are professionals who understand their craft. The cycling was legitimate, the cultural insights were grounded in reality rather than tourism fluff, and the food stops were outstanding. They didn't just show us the countryside. They integrated us into it. This was one of the best execution levels we have seen in our travels. Matahari has earned a loyal customer. • A beautiful taste of Penang Island Life

  After almost a week of doing lots of exploring in George Town and surrounds Matahari Cycles 4 hour tour provided us with an excellent opportunity to see the other side of Penang Island. Princillia and SJ run a very professional tour with well serviced good bikes. The tour ride is flat along man-made irrigation canals, through an extensive Palm Tree plantation, passing a marina of local fishing boats, stopping in a local fishing village to try “local” coffee and treats and back through a beautiful rural landscape. Princillia’s knowledge of birds, plants and local life is extensively shared over the tour and our every need was met. A highly recommended tour!

  Our family cycle trip with Matahari was great fun and very informative. We learnt about the wildlife and a lot about the plantations. Our stop to see a local house, have breakfast and visit a Chinese temple was very interesting. Thank you for a great tour.

  A Wonderful Way to See the Penang Countryside Review: Wayne and I had such an enjoyable time on our bike trip through the beautiful Penang countryside with Matahari Bicycle Tours. The ride was perfectly paced, and it was a great mix of scenic views, local culture, and friendly people along the way.
