Kek Lok Si Temple
During the British colonial era, the Chinese community in Penang flourished, practicing their faith with devotion and building many grand temples—some said to rival, if not surpass, those in China. One of the most renowned is Kek Lok Si, often described as the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia, resembling a spiritual theme park. Built in 1985, visitors can learn about Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism while exploring its beautifully crafted pagodas, vibrant lanterns, intricate statues, and peaceful gardens. Penang Hill
Penang Hill, is a popular tourist destination known for its cool climate, panoramic views, and rich biodiversity. Rising 833 meters above sea level, it offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat below. Accessible by the historic funicular railway, the hill features attractions like The Habitat, colonial-era buildings, temples, and viewing decks overlooking George Town and the Straits of Malacca. 5.00We had an amazing tour today! Our guide, Jeffrey, gave us so much information about Penang’s history and we learned a lot. He was also very accommodating with changing up our itinerary, since we wanted to skip Penang Hill to spend more time in George Town. I was able to see everything I wanted to see, and more! I highly recommend this tour. We wish we could give Jeffrey 10 stars!

5.00I did the tour with Mr. Law and I got to see and do everything I wanted in Penang. It was a wonderful experience. He was also very accommodating and even recommended an amazing restaurant.

5.00We arrived via a cruise ship for just an 8 hour stop. It was easy to book but we needed itinerary modifications due to my husband's mobility/stamina limits. The company responded promptly and effectively each time. Clear meet-up details guide contact info was timely provided. name and phone number of the actual guide a few days ahead. At the last minute H was too unwell to tour. I updated Josh then found him exactly where expected. When they say flexible touring, they mean it! Josh is 4th generation Chinese in Penang and instantly/graciously adapted to make the day great for me. He'd planned everything around my husband's needs then re-planned on the fly because I have no limits. He even cheerfully coped with my off the wall request to buy dishwashing gloves. (A morning market stop was unplanned, delightful, and mission accomplished!) Josh was knowledgeable about all the surroundings, history, culture, architecture, religions, current events, etc. When visiting Chew Jetty I'd said I wasn't interested in shopping. He avoided the crowds and took me a different way to the very end of the Jetty. His knowledge made the Jetty visit much more meaningful to ME. Josh is a good teacher, easy to talk to, and has a lovely sense of humor. He never sounded like he was reciting memorized factoids. He looked out for my safety and comfort. Terima kasih for my "Goldilocks just right" introduction to Penang. I will happily book with this company in the future and hope Josh is available.

The Best Way to See Penang and Stay Cool

5.00I cannot say enough good things about Max, our very knowledgeable guide and our very competent driver. The day we chose this tour was by far the hottest day we have encountered in quite some time. (98F/36C with up to 90% humidity.) The air conditioning in the van is exceptional. People in my group started choosing to not get out-- but I couldn't blame them. Max gave us full control of where we went and what we saw. He was a true guide, walking us through the street art and temples, so much knowledge! He helped us with food choices and explained them. He also could call for the van when we needed to get in and cool down. We learned a lot and laughed a lot and it was a perfect day. When we got back to the cruise ship, we watched all the bus people coming in like drowned rats. This tour is cheaper and so much better!

5.00Law is a fantastic guide! As a local, he is an expert in Penang’s history and shared great insights about how the city has evolved to its present day. Law took us around the city and answered all our questions. We especially enjoyed visiting Penang’s different Buddhist temples. Law explained how each temple’s architecture reflects its cultural roots. We also appreciated how Law told us the Buddha’s origin story and explained his importance in Malaysian life. We stopped for a quick snack at a local restaurant, which was a nice break from the heat. We had an elder in our group, and Law remained patient and accommodating to adjust the pacing of the day as needed. Finally, we enjoyed the tour we had of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion and recommend it as a must stop when visiting George Town. If you are in Penang, Malaysia, we highly recommend taking a tour with Law, the city’s best guide!
We seen many different sites and even took us on a food tour. He was also a great photographer.
