Kek Lok Si Temple

One of the most renowned is Kek Lok Si, often described as the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia, resembling a spiritual theme park. Built in 1985, visitors can learn about Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism while exploring its beautifully crafted pagodas, vibrant lanterns, intricate statues, and peaceful gardens. Don’t miss the breathtaking view of George Town from the temple grounds. As the locals say: “You haven’t been to Penang unless you’ve visited Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si.”

The tour itinerary is wrongly advertised

4.00The tour was for 6 hours and it’s misleading to advertise this tour on the full itinerary when it’s actually not possible to do this tour in 6 hours We did not have the 2 hour tour to Kek lok si temple as the guide advised us to go visit it when we did the temples tour. I was disappointed we didn’t do this because that’s the main reason we booked this tour. Instead we went to a couple of museums which were interesting I do not think this tour should be sold when it’s not possible to follow the itinerary in the time given We also didn’t visit the new world park The guide was lovely and informative

5.00A great experience, would strongly recommend it for couples or families who want a more personal experience. Eng, our guide could not be more accommodating In tailoring an experience that suited our requirements, he had a list of all the well know sights and we chose our must do’s from the list. We were never rushed and spent as much or little time at each place, Eng even made sure there were plenty of toilet stops. Eng was also our personal photographer, taking plenty of pictures for us and knowing all the spots to get the best snap. Thank you Eng for creating a perfect day.

4.00Be very clear about what the tour includes before you start. While it was neant to be flexible, the flexibility we experienced was not negotiated with us. It was a very wet day so the driver decided to take us on a driving tour of the island which meant we didn't see many of the things on the itinerary. We asked if we voukd exchange the Chew Jetty stop for a lical beach but we didn't go there either.

5.00Our guide, Jeff See,took us around Penang both to sites we requested and locations he felt were interesting to us. He answered many questions about history, culture, and contemporary issues in Penang. He also helped us with learning how to navigate ourselves using the Grab app. Everything was adjusted to and accommodated my family’s interests and offbeat questions. Nothing was rushed and our small needs like bathroom stops and lots of time to take pictures were facilitated. We were picked up at our home stay in a comfortable SUV with AC; water bottles were provided. The only non inclusive expensive was the funicular tickets. In addition to our selected locations—Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si—we were taken to clan houses in downtown Georgetown and several small temples…the Daoist one was especially interesting…and all of it was both interesting and beautiful. Mr See was very eloquent about the layered history of this region and we came away feeling we understood Penang far better than we did from the guide books.
