Kelp Point

Kelp Point, also known as Whale Point, is a remote coastal headland on the eastern side of East Falkland in the Falkland Islands, known for its rugged coastline, beaches, and offshore kelp forests. It is especially notable for its abundant wildlife, including Southern Elephant Seals, penguins, and large numbers of birds, with seabirds and coastal species frequently seen along the shore and cliffs. The Whale Bone Arch is one of the most iconic landmarks in Stanley and a powerful symbol of the Falkland Islands’ maritime heritage. Erected in 1933, the arch is made from the jaws of two blue whales and was built to commemorate the centenary of British administration of the Falkland Islands. It stands directly in front of Christ Church Cathedral, creating one of the most photographed scenes in the islands.
