The route across the sands at low tide is atmospheric, evoking the time of Saxon Kings and Celtic Priests. We are likely to see and hear Grey seals as they bask on the sands. You will hear stories dating back to Roman times and can begin to imagine early pilgrims making the crossing to pay their respects to St Aidan and St Cuthbert. Holy Island is a special place and the best way to approach it is across the sands - walking barefoot if you want to get the most from your experience!
The walk is one-way to the island, returning to the start point in my vehicle after we have spent some free time on Holy Island.

Lindisfarne Priory
We will be able to take in a panoramic view of the Priory from the rocky outcrop on the island. There is also the chance to explore the village and purchase refreshments.
Lindisfarne Castle
We will see the castle from a distance. There will not be time to make a visit to view

Wonderful walk

5.00Our walk across to Holy Island with Ray was brilliant. Parking was spot on, Ray made us feel welcome from the start. There were 11 of us on our walk, a nice sized group, all different ages. We set off on time and after a short walk down to the sands, most of us had trainers on for this part, these soon came off to follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims. Ray made sure he spent time walking with each of us and told some interesting stories on the way. Once across we had time on the island, to visit the loo and have a look round, before Ray took us back to the main land in his car. Overall a wonderful experience, which I’m so pleased we did.

5.00We did the walk with Ray across the sands to Holy Island 2 years ago. We enjoyed it so much that we repeated it this year when we were in Northumberland. Ray is an excellent guide with a fund of knowledge about Lindisfarne and its history. He's also a superb storyteller! Highly recommended

5.00We had a wonderful walk to holy island with the superb guide Ray .Knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Lindisfarne . We were incredibly lucky with weather .Ray quickly spotted hundreds of seals basking in the sun .We did the walk barefoot as the water was lovely and warm .Lovely day and would thoroughly recommend.Ten out of ten .Massive thankyou .

5.00Wow, what a fabulous day we have had. It has long been a wish to walk to Lindisfarne and as such we wanted to make the most of it, hence our booking. Ray was superb; helpful, organised, friendly and very knowledgeable. He also welcomed our Toy poodle Olive, who had a blast! Brilliant value for money and many wonderful memories made.
Walk across the Sands just like the pilgrims.

5.00A pleasurable experience walking across the tidal causeway to Holy Island with intermittent briefings from the guide Ray on the pilgrims walk, Holy Island and early Kingdom of Northumberland history. Not a long walk but great for bare foot through the Sands, or wellies or ideal if you have wet shoes. The return journey is a lift back from your host and you get over an hour on the Island to explore the priory or even have a drink in many of the cafes and pubs. Well worth a trip even for a first look before returning via your own means.

5.00Brilliant, informative and interesting walk over the sands with Ray which we would not have attempted on our own. Ray was extremely knowledgable and friendly and his experience of the sands and surrounding area made us feel safe and confident. We wore wellies which were ideal for the walk. We were very fortunate with the weather and really enjoyed the whole experience. In fact, the walk was the highlight of our trip to Northumberland. Thank you Ray.
Barefoot trek of the Pilgrims Way

5.00I’m not a religious person but found walking barefoot in the footsteps of the pilgrims quite a spiritual experience. Thanks to Ray for leading this wonderful activity, he engaged with all members of the group & was very mindful of differing abilities and interests. I loved the history he shared as we walked across, delivered in such a relatable way and with charm & charisma.
Nice easy walk, if you get lucky with the tide times and the eeather

5.00Great walk, did it on a still sunny day, on a low spring tide barefoot with my boots strung around my neck. Great experience, what a lovely place. Had to put boots back on to walk back to Berwick.
