Please keep an eye on your messages after booking, as we will confirm all the details before the experience. With the guidance of a local pottery master, you will create pieces on the potter’s wheel using this ancient technique, as well as explore other modelling and decorating methods. We start by making a simple piece and then move on to a more complex one. Afterwards, we will decorate them using various techniques. The pieces made by participants will not be ready at the end of the experience, as clay items need to dry slowly before being fired in a high-temperature kiln. Shipping of the finished pieces is not included. The pieces will be ready for collection within 30 days. For shipping, an additional fee applies to cover logistical and packaging costs: Portugal and Europe: €10.00 America: €20.00

5.00We had an absolutely fantastic experience of pottery in Silves! A fun, creative and very special moment, ideal for all ages. José was amazing — super friendly, welcoming and patient to guide us in this magical world of clay. In the end, we were still surprised with a delicious snack and a wonderful homemade cake! I highly recommend to everyone who visits the area! A different and memorable activity. Thank you, Jose and Francisco! 👏👏

5.00Our family decided to try pottery with a local master. It was the best experience we had in Faro. Well organised. A lot of fun with an amazing teacher. The entire experience was something we won‘t forget. Our pieces were made with love and we look forward to displaying them.

5.00A fabulous afternoon at José and Francisco! We thought we would come for a pottery workshop, we now know we come for much more: a magnificent decor in a lush garden embellished with the artist's works, a moment of relaxation where you can give free rein to your creativity to the sound of music, a moment of sharing and laughter despite 3 different languages spoken during the workshop, and especially for the immense generosity of this Algarvian artist. Let yourself be carried away, here everything goes quietly, "con calma", and it is perfect! Do not be surprised, José will not dwell on theory, a demonstration and you will be on track, the goal being that each person leaves with a work that he will like: whether you are completely beginner or experienced, he will adapt to help you create the piece of your choice! For the spoken language: obviously everything is easier if you master Portuguese or English, but do not let the language barrier stop you: for pottery, gestures speak for a lot, a smile and good humor will do the rest!

5.00Wow! More than I expected in a three hour workshop! The father and son team were very knowledgeable about the process of working with clay on a wheel and explaining it to us in English. We had a variety of choices for our projects and were able to create with guidance a few high quality projects on the wheel. We also used hand building techniques on some of our projects. In addition, we were also offered lemon tea made from a lemon tree from their yard and a tasty snack tray of local bread, cheese and fruit. All of it took place outdoors in their beautiful garden. All in all it was a lovely learning experience in a beautiful setting. Our session went longer than three hours because the projects we chose took longer than expected.

5.00This is my second pottery workshop with Algarvian Roots and it was as positive as the first. The vibe begins with the playful garden and Jose and Francisco maintain the feeling throughout the afternoon. Even the cat wanted to hang around. Francisco kindly gave us some insider advice on hikes near Monchique and fossil footprints near our base in Salema.

5.00This experience was above and beyond my expectations. I spent a wonderful afternoon in a garden with creative, professional artists, learning to make a beautiful piece, and a whimsical piece of pottery. It was very enjoyable and a lot of fun, and at the end of class, I was surprised with a selection of appetizers, referred to as “the snack.” I would highly recommend.

5.00Attended the workshop for the second time. This time also took daughter who immediately understood why a second time. The atmosphere, garden, José and Francisco, the fun and the final result. Finish with the delicious snacks and homemade cake by José. Great!

5.00For the 2nd time we have followed this workshop with great pleasure. It's so much fun to do and you'll be super helped if necessary. The location is also very atmospheric and delicious snacks as a conclusion. Beware: this workshop is addictive😉
