This is a private tour so only your group is on the tour, We have a 4 person limit so that we can 'socially distance' and show you around town in a meaningful and enjoyable way. We encourage questions and discussion and tailor the content to your interests. Besides showing main sights we also include lovely back streets that we know because we are locals! We have a break in one of a number of really nice local cafes that welcome us because of our small group size. Big tour groups are not allowed entry into the places we go to. If you have a particular interest please let us know when you join the tour and perhaps we can include it. The start time and start pint can be changed if you wish.

Begijnhof

One rouute is to have a break in a cafef in the old Jewish district and then head across to the Begijnhof, which where there is anohter hiidden church in a large enclosed courtyard. From there we either head into the 9 streets oart of the canal belt and end there.

That Damn Guide, Mark, is an independent tour guide in Amsterdam and provided our family with an excellent, private walking tour experience. He's very knowledgeable, very funny, and offers a unique perspective on Amsterdam with interesting insights into the rich culture and history of this city. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and he comes highly recommended!

My wife and I did a 4-hour private tour of Amsterdam and the Jordaan neighborhood with Mark in May. Mark is very knowledgable, personable and enthusiastic about Amsterdam. The pace of the tour was comfortable and we received a lot of tips that enhanced our stay in this beautiful city. We would highly recommend Mark and his Introduction to Amsterdam Tour.

We had a wonderful tour with Mark. We had our eight year old in tow and Mark was able to keep the grownups and our son interested and entertained. He was very knowledgeable and was able to quickly pivot when my son expressed interest in something more obscure and not necessarily part of the tour . He spent time at the end as well, giving us some great recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He we a pleasure to spend the day with and we are very happy to have met him. I highly recommend!

Mark is definitely the best guide in Amsterdam! Four of us took 2 private tours with him...the walking tour of Amsterdam and the Countryside/Windmill Tour. Mark tries very hard to tailor the tour to what you are looking for as much as possible. We had the most wonderful time with Mark! His knowledge is excellent about the area and the history. We love cheese so he took us to a working farm where they produce milk for cheese. We saw new baby lambs, chickens and dairy cows. For our lunch we had a cheese tasting which we had booked with him ahead of time. He also took us to numerous tulip fields knowing how much we loved them. We never tired of the beautiful tulips and views. We laughed and laughed, especially on the farm with the sheep.He knew we loved goodies so we had apple pie, cookies, stroopwafels and more. Mark truly made our visit to Amsterdam special and we will never forget him or his kindness. We were sorry to leave. We definitely recommend Mark. There are others who have tried to copy what he does, but Mark takes you to places most others don't know about. You definitely need to book with Mark as he is the best! There is a reason Rick Steves recommends him!

We just returned from a weeklong trip to Amsterdam. The trip was amazing, due in part to Mark and his excellent tours. We saw him three days in a row for a variety of experiences — a walking tour of the city, a tour of the countryside (not tulips since they were not blooming yet) and a private tour of the Van Gogh museum. Every tour was spectacular. Mark is an extremely knowledgeable guide and very patient with a barrage of questions. I personally get bored easily in museums but he made the Van Gogh experience one to remember with his deep understanding of both the artist and his art. If you are heading to Amsterdam, do NOT hesitate to schedule a tour with Mark. You won’t be disappointed!

Lee’s private walking tour of Amsterdam was simply outstanding! Her deep knowledge, engaging storytelling, and warm personality made the city come alive in the most captivating way. This tour was a perfect overview of Amsterdam. Mark is a cheerful and friendly guide who gave us the full history but also plenty of perspective and details you won’t find elsewhere. He seemed to know everything, including where to find the best pork buns. He managed to persuade our hotel to let him show us its private wedding chamber- a beautiful art deco room with stained glass windows and murals. Very special. The tour was also perfectly calibrated for us, 2 adults and 2 teens.
DO NOT SKIP this tour. A 10/10 Must go to!!!!!

10/10, absolutely recommend this tour!!!! I went with my family (4 total) and this was the most amazing way to explore and learn about the beautiful city of Amsterdam. We have already been to the city a few days prior to the tour, so we walked around and thought we wouldn’t learn much more than what we already knew. We were mistaken. Mark was a fabulous guide. He showed us places we NEVER would’ve seen if it wasn’t for this tour. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer lots of our questions about the history, architecture and more! He ensured we saw some historic buildings and pointed out some facts about other random buildings as we walked by that we never would’ve known if it weren’t for him! He gave us lots of recommendations on where to go for food, drinks, etc. and showed us some hidden gems in the city. I highly recommend this tour. You won’t be disappointment with how well it is and it is a very fun way to explore the city at the comfort of your own company because it is a private tour. No need to try to walk faster or slower to keep up with your group. Definetly check this tour out while you’re in Amsterdam!

Mark was a truly extraordinary guide. Very knowledgeable about the city and its history but much more than that - he gave us a fantastic perspective on what we were seeing, in a super helpful and understandable story. He was extremely attuned to our interests, finding little shops and sites that would never be on a generic tour. He is also extremely personable, making the whole walk feel like we were with a friend who lives in the city and enjoys sharing it with the world. Just a great experience.

Six of us family members (four new to Amsterdam, two who had done a different company's walking tour maybe five years ago) booked That Dam Guide for an August walking tour. Mark was awesome! We wanted a more history-leaning walking tour because we're all history nerds, and he was a fount of knowledge and information for all of us. We also loved the custom map he gave us at the end with a lot of extra restaurant/bars/sites if we wanted to visit during our stay in the city. We would totally recommend That Dam Guide for a fun, interesting and informative tour!
