  I had to go for a buisness trip to Albania and wanted to combine it with a two days birdwatching tour. I found AOS on the internet searching for guided birding tours in Albania. Everything met my expectations. The choice of AOS of the places to visit was perfect (Kune-Vain, former swamp of Terbuf and Divjake lagoon). As it was main migrating season, a lot of different species, some of them in enormous numbers, could be seen. Highlights were of course the damlamtian pelicans and the flamingos. Impressive for me was also the great number of water rails, lesser spotted redshanks, corn buntings and stonechats. But we have seen also rather rare visitors as e.g. marsh sandpipers. Erald Xeka was a very experinced guide knowing a lot about the different habitats, the birds to see there and also other important facts including the history of Albania. It was interesting to learn also from him about the other activities of AOS as e.g. ringing of birds and fighting illegal hunting of birds. Everything went perfectly well including the picking up at the airport and on the next day from the hotel in Tirana. It was a great pleasure doing the trip with him. I can recommend trips with AOS warmly to everybody who likes bird watching (as a beginner or an experienced expert).

• Private Birding Tour mit Erald

  During our 4 week trip on the Balkan coast we had booked a private birding trip for 2 people with Erald to get started in Albania. We had stayed in Fichta coming from Lake Skutari in Montenegro and Erald picked us up in the morning with his car at the accommodation and spent the whole day with us. The aim was not only to observe but also to photograph birds (Nikon 600mm). The area around Fichta is perfect for a day trip with its open fields, many lagoons, sea and marshlands, but also mountainous sections. Erald is a phenomenal guide, we felt very comfortable and above all we were able to take very good photos in places we would never have found on our own. In addition to flamingos, cuckoos, hoopoe, etc., we were also able to observe various eagles (migration time), owls and stone owls and take pictures in very good quality. Through the tour with Erald we were able to learn a lot about nature, the existing problems (coastal development, destruction of near-natural habitats, etc.), but also about life in Albania itself. We will definitely do another tour with Erald (perfect English) when we get back to Albania; we also liked the other stops in Albania a lot in terms of the photographic possibilities. Clear recommendation from us!

  Fantastic 2 days birding with Kladji & Kato. Wonderful to see Black Headed Bunting & Dalmatian Pelican at Divake, Karavasta along with more usual birds. Kladji was also able to get us onto Roller (a much wanted lifer) & Turtle Dove before returning to Tirana on day 1. Day 2 took us to Natre and Calandra Lark, Golden Oriole and Great Spotted Cuckoo (38 years after my last sighting). An Ice Cream on the way back to Tirana made for a great end to the trip.

  We had an awesome trip with Erald Xeka to the Vjosa river and the salinas and on the back to a roller colony. The birds we saw were spectacular and included many species that do not occur in western/northern Europe. Erald knows the birds of Albania extremely well. He identifies birds from great distance and has an excellent ear for calls. He provides a lot of background information on behaviour, migration and ecology. We could not have had a better field guide! Looking forward to a future trip on birds of Albania over several days with him!

  The Albanian Ornithological Society (AOS) arranged a private, one-day tour of Diviaka Lagoon led by their outstanding staff which resulted in 50+ species, including nesting Dalmatian Pelicans, waders, shorebirds, birds of prey and passerines. Our exceptional guides, Taulent and Klajdi, generously shared their deep knowledge of birds and habitat. We learned about the importance and challenges of wildlife conservation in the Balkans, and AOS’ research focus and methods. Their responsiveness to our myriad questions also broadened our understanding of the history and culture of this fascinating country. AOS recently celebrated its 10th anniversary as a leading non-profit, bird conservation organization and we were pleased to know that our tour contributed both to their important work and their bottom line. This is among the best private birding experiences we have had.

  An excursion with you, or two days with you were very interesting and stimulating for the whole group. After the end of the entire excursion, which lasted 13 days, the colleagues said that NP Theht and Shkoder Lake were among the most interesting locations that we could see during the excursion.

  I booked a 2 and 1/2 day tour in Albania. I was picked me up at the airport. It was a wonderful birding tour in Albania with a true professional ornithologist (Erald), one of the best I've met! The material provided (bins and spotting scope) was of good quality. Birdwatching in Albania is great. I got to see some amazing lagoons and many new species for me. Without the help of my guide I would never have seen so many birds and learned so much. I got some great photos. I strongly recommend it.

  Excellent guide. Family friendly. We did the extra mile to find some pelicans. We saw a lot species and learned a thing or two about the country as well.

  We used Albanian Ornithological Society for our visit to Divjaka-Karavasta National Park. We were looked after magnificently on the day by Taulant, and arranged by Julian. We saw the birds we expected to see, and a few more as a bonus! The service given by these guys was first class and we will go straight to them on our next visit. Thankyou AOS.

  A truly exciting birding tour! From 1st to 5th November with AOS, accompanied by our guide Erald who was with us from arrival at Tirana airport until departure, guiding us through the evocative habitats of salt marshes, lagoons, wetlands, pine forests and forests in the National Parks of Divjaka_Karavasta, Logara, the Gran Park of Tirana, in the Protected areas such as VJose -Narte, of Orikumi to observe the specimens that usually live there (pelicans, flamingos, shags, almost all ardeites) and migratory ones. Erald, an ornithologist animated by great passion and dedication, very good, competent, professional, very empathetic and friendly, made us discover Albania, its beauties and the great variety of birds that populate it. A special mention to the Association for the conservation and protection work it carries out and because it promptly responded to our email accepting our requests.
