Cave Walk – a less adventurous tour, fine even for those who suffer from claustrophobia, no upper age limit 2.5-3 hrs private Cave Walk into two caves, both paved and equipped with artificial lighting. The first cave is the ”underground flower garden” of Budapest because of its charasteristic mineral concretions (cave corals, calcite plates) and gypsum crystals. The other cave has calcite and barite crystals and calcite plate deposits originating from former hot-water lakes. Stalactites and stalagmites can also be found there.
Please note: this tour is for small groups (max 14 pax) with English guiding. The caves can be also visited on a lower price by joining the shorter regular Hungarian guided tours (usually school groups or families) that starts hourly.

Szemlo-Hegyi Barlang (Showcave)
Cave Walk is a relaxed way of cave-exploring even for those who suffer from claustrophobia. Budapest is the capital of caves: more than two hundred caves are known under the Buda side of the town, created by the same springs that supply the famous spas. Szemlo-hegyi Cave is the ”underground flower garden” of Budapest because of its floriform mineral concretions: cave corals, calcite plates and gypsum crystals. Spectacular chambers, vast vertical dimensions and fancy „petrified ornaments” characterize this cave. After the first part of our tour, from the top of this cave we can have a break to admire the panorama of the capital.
Palvolgyi Caves
Palvolgyi Cave system is the longest cave system of Hungary. This is a labyrinth of narrow passages and hollow spaces. You will need to be ready to climb some stairs: we will climb more than 400 stairs and a 7 meter long ladder. Besides stalactites and stalagmites, the cave has calcite and barite crystals and calcite plate deposits originating from former hot-water lakes.

5.00Budapest is an incredible city with so many amazing sights, food, and museums above ground. We were surprised how much we loved our tour of the Pál-völgyi and Szemlő-hegyi caves. The introductory movie was great, our tour guide was amazing, and the walk between the caves was a good break between the cave tours. We appreciated having an English tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide, who we could ask questions instead of having a headset with a prerecorded tour. We were in a small group of about a dozen people so it was easy to stay with the group and hear our guide. Next time we are in Budapest I expect we will go on this tour again. There are steps of different sizes, some almost like a ladder, and some walking in the caves and between the caves, so if that is a concern for you perhaps just tour the Szemlő-hegyi Cave which is a much easier tour.

5.00Dark and cool, i recommend a mobile/flashlight and a light jacket. The tour includes a cave right at the entrance and after a sho walk (10min) a second cave tour. The experience was great and the guide was friendly and helpful.

5.00An excellent experience with a brilliant guide who was so knowledgeable about the cave systems. We visited 2 separate caves which were a good 20 minutes walk apart. When they say dress for the cold believe them. Luckily we had taken the advice. There is a lot of walking and climbing up and down steps plus a 7m ladder climb. You will need to have a reasonable fitness level for this particular event. If you are able to do this, it is well worth it but don't go if tired. Brilliant experience.

5.00Great experience, would definitely recommend! The path wasn’t difficult and the pace was good. The temperature in both cave systems was fine and didn’t need a jacket.

5.00Super cool experience and I mean that in two ways! Cool as in awesome, but cool as in chilly inside the caves as well. But it was great learning about why these caves exist and our guide had a fun sense of humor as well. You get to explore two caves on this journey and after the first one, you have a great view of Budapest and then get to enjoy your inner child by going down a brief playground slide. The walk to the second cave is half a mile (our group did it in 12 minutes) and it has a mild incline at some points but it's really a pretty leisurely hike. Bring a sweatshirt to wear inside the cave. The temperature inside is about 11 celsius or 50 fahrenheit. It's also damp and you may have water drip on you (though nothing significant. You won't get drenched or anything)

5.00The first cave is very stunning and has some features you cannot see often. The second one is a more standard cave, mais great to visit too. A short walk of 10-15min. is between the two caves. Pretty easy to walk in the cave. The guide is really good and interesting

5.00Great trip. The guide was very good and informative, however I could have avoided all the times he showed us e.g. Snow White and the 7 dwarfs or a crocodile etc. but otherwise a really good trip, can be highly recommended.
