Zhangye is an important city in ancient silk raod, today we will arrange a private day tour for your to visit the famous Mati temple and Daso temple.

Mati temple also called Puguang temple With a history of more than 1,600 years which was built on the cliff, the Mati Temple Grottoes, together with Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang and Yulin Grottoes in Anxi, are called the "three art treasures of Hexi Buddhism. In Mati temple the Buddhist caves depict a lovely way the spread of this religion via the Silk Road to China.

Zhangye Dafo was built in 1098 during China’s Xixia Dynasty, a huge reclining Buddha was stored in the Main Hall for 900 years. Dafo with 34.5 meters body in length, shoulder 7.5 meters, ears 4 meters in length, which is the largest indoor Buddha statue in China

Dafo Temple of Zhangye

Drive to Mati Si (Mati Temple Grottoes) in the morning,Mati Temple Grottoes is located 65 km southeast of Zhangye. The Grottoes were built in 5th century, as a important Buddhist site for Buddhist studies.Due to its special location, Qilian mountain surrounded,both Chinese monks and Tibetan monks studied here. Mati temple is indeed one of the first places where the monks from abroad settled to preach Buddhism. The caves were used as altars to pray to Buddha for refuge but also for traders taking this legendary road. Drive back to Zhangye, visit Dafo Si ( Giant Buddha Temple)in the city.The Giant Buddha Temple was built in 1098 during China’s Xixia Dynasty, a huge reclining Buddha was stored in the Main Hall for 900 years.
