Almaty Arbat as a point of attraction in the city has existed since the 19th century. Locals believe that the popularity of the pedestrian street peaked in the 90s. In those years, city life was seething on the Arbat - poets gathered, songs were sung with a guitar, those who could afford bought the most fashionable things. Local commission shop with audio cassettes and electronics, TSUM as a place for buying rare things, for which people came from different parts of Almaty and even other cities.
The green bazaar of our days is a popular place among tourists; it is often included in various excursion programs as a full-fledged attraction of Almaty. Travelers are attracted by the oriental exoticism of the market, the opportunity to buy various edible and not only souvenirs, communicate with good-natured friendly sellers and get better acquainted with the simple everyday life of the Kazakhs.

Mr. Vadim was our guide with good English speaking capabilities and his guidance and support during this 5 days was really appreciated. 5.00We visited Almaty in May 2025 for a special anniversary holiday, and I’m so glad we chose Ali and his company for our private tour. It all started with a simple WhatsApp conversation where I expressed interest in visiting Almaty’s stunning lakes and the breathtaking Charyn Canyon. Ali immediately suggested that instead of rushing through a typical day tour, we opt for a relaxed private experience – and that turned out to be the best advice! From the very beginning, coordination was seamless. Ali was incredibly responsive (famous for his quirky voice notes!), transparent about pricing and availability, and deeply committed to ensuring we had the best experience possible. What made this tour truly exceptional was Ali himself choosing to accompany us personally. He took us to Charyn Canyon and both Kolsai and Kaindy Lakes. At Charyn, Ali not only guided us through the 4 km canyon walk but also clicked amazing photos and even flew his drone to capture moments we’ll never forget. The drive through the mountains and valleys to Kolsai Lake was equally stunning, and Ali had arranged a truly unique property for our overnight stay – rustic, remote, and absolutely magical. Reaching it was an adventure in itself, but the reward was worth it. One standout moment was our visit to Kaindy Lake. It had started to rain, and we were unsure whether to proceed. Ali not only helped us negotiate better rates with local horse ride operators (language was a barrier for us) but also reassured us that the weather would likely clear up – and he was right. We went ahead and ended up with clear skies and a spectacular experience, even riding horses together through the forest. What stood out most throughout the trip was Ali’s personal touch. We spent 2-3 times more time at each location compared to a standard day tour – and that made all the difference. We never felt rushed, we always felt cared for, and we saw the region through the eyes of someone who loves it deeply. Without hesitation, I would highly recommend Ali. His thoughtful planning, personal involvement, and local expertise made these two days in Almaty truly unforgettable. I’m already looking forward to reconnecting with him – maybe for a Kyrgyzstan tour in the next year or two!
