DIOCLETIAN'S PALACE AND SPLIT OLD TOWN WITH THE VISIT TO MEŠTROVIĆ GALLERY
We start with the exploration of grandiose Diocletian's Palace - a UNESCO World Heritage site that represents the best preserved late-antiquity building in the world.
Built at the end of the 3rd century AD, the Diocletian's Palace is definitely the most significant Roman site in Croatia. With locals still living within its walls. it is a living monument of one era and certainly a "must see" when visiting Split.
We then take a taxi ( 3-5 minutes' ride ) to the iconic Mestrovic Gallery proudly housing the works if Ivan Mestrovic - the most outstanding Croatian sculptor and architect of the 20th century.
As a cosmopolitan global artist who lived and worked across Europe Mestrovic moved to the USA in 1947 where he taught as a university lecturer. Appreciated by the American people and President Eisenhower, he was granted American citizenship.

Croatia Awaits
Enjoy a full tour of Diocletian's Palace and the Old Town with a refreshing coffee break at any point of the tour. We then leave the Old Town in a private car to admire the works of the most renowned Croatian sculptor of the 20th century, Ivan Meštrović. We complete the tour with a transfer back to the colourful Old Town.

5.00When you’re still gushing about a trip almost 2 months later, you know it was AMAZING! That’s the case with our Croatia trip curated by Jelena at Croatia Awaits. From the first Zoom call, I knew we were in perfect hands. Her attention to detail & knowledge of her homeland (she is truly LOCAL) is incredible. She’s built a network of wonderful guides/skippers/drivers so that every outing feels special. She was super responsive throughout the planning process & on top of everything throughout our trip. She stayed in touch on almost a daily basis to ensure things were going well. The whole experience exceeded our expectations. We also had the pleasure of meeting Jelena & touring Split with her & didn’t want the day to end. She truly is a GEM!

5.00Jelena helped us plan our trip to Croatia. She came up with great ideas that fit our schedule and interests, found fantastic tour guides for us, and arranged transportation for us. Then, during our trip, she checked up on how things were going and reminded us of our upcoming schedule. She made the trip so much easier and better for us. Highly recommend her and her services!

5.00We had a wonderful afternoon visiting Diocletian’s Palace with Jelena. She’s personable, knowledgeable, speaks perfect English and made us feel instantly connected to the city. My husband, mother and teenager all loved the tour. Jelena was sensitive to our needs and made it super convenient. She found a place that kept our morning beach bags while we did the tour and went out of her way to make sure we absorbed it all and enjoyed it. From the sights, the history to the local cafe break and local contemporary information on the current life of the city and places to visit. We highly recommend her!

5.00My husband and I travelled to Split with our 29 year old daughter and 26 year old son and had a wonderful private tour of Split with Jelena the first morning after our arrival. Her English was excellent, she was a delighted person, and she was able to answer all of our questions from questions about history and culture to questions about the 1990’s war to questions about Game of Thrones sites. We highly recommend Jelena.

5.00Jelena is someone very friendly pleasant, easy-going, patient and extremely knowledgeable - everything you are looking for when looking for a tour guide. We went on a private walking tour with her and she even plenty of local tips for bars, restaurants and more. Nothing can go wrong with Jelena!

5.00I don’t normally write reviews but felt compelled to share just how wonderful Jelena made our trip to beautiful Split. From the moment we made contact prior to our visit, Jelena was attentive to every aspect of our experience; whether it being cultural preferences to enquiring about how we’d like to spend our time after a long day of sightseeing. I got the sense that Jelena prides herself on providing a bespoke, individualised experience. It was as though she knew exactly want we wanted to experience before we could ask for it. And to top it all, Jelena has perfect English and is the most charming, beautiful and warm host you could hope for in a tour guide. I really cannot recommend her highly enough!

5.00Jelena (Helena) was just great. Speaks perfect English, figures out what part you are most interested in, and then creates a tour based on your interests. Full of advice on where to go/shop/eat, without pressure to do anything. Great person to use.
