Praca do Marco Zero
The square was originally called Praça Barão do Rio Branco, but became known as Praça do Marco Zero due to the fact that it is home to the kilometer zero of Pernambuco's roads. It is formed by a red colored marker donated by the Automobile Club. On the side of the square is a bronze statue of the Baron of Rio Branco, 2.80 m high, by sculptor Felix Charpentier. In the center, one can see the compass rose by painter Cícero Dias.
Patio de Sao Pedro
Recife was famous for its high colonial houses, which appear in history books and photographs of the nineteenth century. They were located in other parts of the city and were almost all demolished. The Pátio de São Pedro is a collection of low colonial houses, and the extraordinary São Pedro dos Clérigos Church stands out. It is a return to the past in the middle of the big city.
