Church of Saint Francis
St. Francis Church, in Fort Kochi (Fort Cochin), Kochi, originally built in 1503, is one of the oldest European churches in India and has great historical significance as a mute witness to the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent.The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were removed to Lisbon.
Chinese Fishing Nets
Chinese fishing nets(Cheena vala)are a type of stationary lift net in India. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as Chinese fishing nets in India, the more formal name for such nets is shore operated lift nets. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20m or more across. Each structure is at least 10m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end which is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century. Indeed, one interpretation of city name Kochi is ‘co-chin', meaning like China

5.00Althaf offered to take me around Kochi, and it felt like I was exploring the city with a local friend :) I ended up joining him for iftar and even got to meet his family later in the evening. There were so many memorable experiences, and he made me want to come visit Kochi again next year so that I can see my friend again. Thank you so much.

5.00Adjamel gave us a top tuk tuk tour of Cochin today. He arrived at our hotel on time and tailor made our tour. Very flexible, with plenty of suggestions. Great local knowledge, we did some culture, sightseeing and shopping in Jew Town. Would highly recommend, best way to see Cochin

5.00Alright, it's all about my journey with Fort Kochi and Altaf 💕 🕯️when I was in Kochi around August to October of 2025. I was strolling down the streets of fort kochi , his friend approached with tourist information and he handed me off to Altaf. Journey started there..... So much fun with him. He is aware of most places , businesses, people , culture , religious practices, city laws and respect to fort , water and families . He is factory of kindness and information!! He goes beyond tourist guide and makes you feel like his own friend and brother/sister because He knows what a family life feels with true compassion . Thanks to his family, friends and people around him. He's the true package of fort kochi. I enjoyed every part of my trips around joyfully. Don't forget that He's a film star ⭐ in some movies on YouTube. I spent so much in kochi. And rest of Kerala because of his love and guiding energy with enthusiasm!! Now, we are full time friends. I went to revisit him agai Hes my friend and brother now. Altaf!! Your love and skills are needed in Kochi, my dude!! You are unconditionally loved, my brother!!
