Meet your host Jorge at his home and drive to the local market together. Jorge will give you a tour of the market and you may even buy fresh ingredients to use in your cooking class later.
Jorge offers a cooking demonstration, where you will learn to cook Chilean dishes in his home kitchen. His kitchen is a modest kitchen, so you might use the dining area for demonstrations and to prep the ingredients for your meal. The cooking portion of the experience will last approximately 1 hour, during which you will learn to make 1-2 dishes.
A few dishes that you might try are palta reina with tuna (tuna stuffed avocado), fresh bruschetta with Chilean canned mussel, pastel de papas (a classic dish made in Chilean homes, not always found in restaurants, it is something close to a shepherd’s pie) and Chilean Papayas with cream.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Chilean culture and cuisine from a warm and welcoming local - you're sure in for a real treat!

Jorge and Mariela have the sweetest love story - The two met at a concert where Jorge was performing and instantly felt connected. Jorge is a professional musician who is quite popular and recognized in Chile. Mariela lives in Buenos Aires and has a degree in tourism; she has worked as a tour guide for 8 years. Her job has allowed her to travel around the world and she can even speak 3 languages - Spanish, English and Portuguese! Jorge and Mariela often shuttle between Santiago and Buenos Aires, so that they can spend more time together! Jorge learned cooking from his grandmother, who cooked for the whole family. You can expect an authentic, fresh, and delicious meal at Jorge and Mariela’s home while sharing stories, food, and music!

This was my first time doing a traveling spoon tour. We had a wonderful time with Jorge and Carolina. Carolina and Jorge altered the schedule for us because we needed to meet with them on a Monday and the market is closed. Instead we walked around the neighborhood and Jorge pointed out the native trees and foliage. I realized then that I was on a completely different continent and that I needed wake up and pay attention to the differences. This tour was like visiting old friends in their new town if your friend had a killer record collection and was a gourmet chef. Jorge did so much with just a few ingredients in a small kitchen. He was so knowledgeable about the local cuisine. Carolina was warm welcoming and spoke excellent English. We covered so many topics in an afternoon. I definitely want to try traveling spoon tours in other countries. We had a great half day with Jorge and Carolina.

Jorge and Caroline were very welcoming, like visiting old friends. We discovered new fruits from the local markets. Jorge was very good at explaining how he prepared our lunch. It was a fun experience for sure. Would repeat it !

We had a fun time with this experience. Jorge and his partner Anise (?) were so welcoming and friendly. It’s not an actual cooking class where you make a meal but you go to a street market, which was another great experience, for the food and you do get to watch Jorge cook while he explains everything. He’s a musician as well so we were able to enjoy his music through lunch. We learned a lot of information from them that was very helpful during our stay in Santiago. I really enjoyed their company and would recommend this event.

This was a lovely experience in a private home in a beautiful part of Santiago, Chile. There were four participants and we all agreed that the chef was charming and informative. We count this as our favorite tour in Chile. I highly recommend the tour to anyone interested in good food and wine in a relaxed environment filled with hospitality.
