5.00My father, sister, and I did a 6-hour private land tour (no flying dresses). Our guide, Demitris, was knowledgeable, friendly, and delight to spend time with. We started out from Fira where we were staying, spent an hour in Oia (which was plenty as we are not big shoppers), then went to the biggest black sand beach, the red beach, the lighthouse, and the monastery. When we got hungry, he took us to a fabulous inexpensive place near the red beach to get excellent gyros. Dimitris’s first question to us was “what do you want to see?” I believe he would have taken us anywhere we asked. Along the way he kept us informed and entertained with interesting facts about the island and himself. At every stop he offered to take photos and they came out great. Demetris answered every question we asked. His family has long roots in Santorini and he clearly loves this island. We rode in a very comfortable Mercedes van. Demetris was an excellent driver who impressed with his backing up and turning in tight places skills. The only thing that could have been better was communication from the company. We booked the tour through our travel agent and got instructions that the company would contact us at least 24 hours before to confirm. When we had not heard from them 2 hours before our pick up time, I called and it took several minutes to locate our reservation.
