Learn to make traditional South Indian dishes with your host, a home cook who has been cooking throughout her life. A great opportunity for you to meet a local in their home and learn all about the ingredients, cooking techniques and traditions associated with Indian cooking. You will get a sneak peak into their lives and hear wonderful stories of Jemima growing up in South India and how she learned to cook from her mother. If you're craving Indian food, this is the best place to try an authentic, home-cooked meal, made using traditional ingredients and cooking techniques. By the end of this experience you will not only have knowledge about Indian food and traditions, but you'll have learnt to make a few dishes yourself, that you can re-create back home!

Join Jemima, and her husband and children, when they are home, for a home-cooked South Indian cooking and meal experience. Jemima lives in a family home on the outskirts of London (London Zone 6) in Orpington, a quiet suburb of London with professional working families. In your cooking class learn to make traditional South Indian dishes with Jemima, who has been cooking throughout her life. You might learn to make dishes like a traditional tomato or coconut chutney, a meat or vegetable curry dish, and as well as dosas or idlis. After your cooking class, you will enjoy the meal you helped prepare. Your menu might include South Indian staples such as dosas (Indian crepe-like pancakes made from fermented lentil and rice batter), a chutney and a meat and vegetable curry served at their kitchen dining table. In the summer, enjoy your meal on their back patio. Please note that your host will be serving you and happy to chat as you are eating but won’t eat with you - so she can make sure you get your dosas piping hot! Depending on the size of your group, the cooking portion of your experience lasts 1-1.5 hours.

5.00Jemima was a lovely host and immediately made me feel right at home. As she cooked she showed me what she doing each step of the way and also explained all the different kinds of dahl that are available (and which to use for what dish). Her dishes were delicious and as she demonstrated, not too complicated or time-consuming. Lots of food (6 different dishes!) plus appetizers and dessert! She even sent me home with take out so that my husband could enjoy some too! Jemima and I had a great chat about Indian customs and she made sure I knew exactly how to get back to Central London on transit. All in all, a wonderful experience!

5.00We did not know what to expect, and we were very pleasantly surprised by how much we loved all of the dishes Jemina prepared for us. We wish we could have taken our leftovers home to the US but it’s not practical. Our conversation with Aaron and Jemina was delightful as well. We will book again if/when we make it back to the London area again.

5.00Jemima and Aaron were amazing hosts, it was lovely to get to know them and hear their stories. We learnt so much about Indian food and the ingredients they used. In addition to the food Jemima cooked with us, she and her husband had prepared many different dishes for us to try. They adapted everything to our taste and we discovered a new type of food that we will definitely cook again. It was delicious, we had a lovely time, thank you Aaron and Jemima!

5.00Great experience and a delicious dinner. Maybe more of a cooking demonstration than an actual class but I got a lot of cooking tips and really enjoyed chatting with Jemima and her husband about cooking, food culture and other things. A well spent evening that I can certainly recommend for those interested in Indian cooking or even just for the experience to visit a home and talk to friendly, easy-going locals! It's a little outside central London but easy to get to by local train.

5.00Talking with Jemima in her kitchen as she explained what she was doing, the spices she was using, and the equipment. It was great to see the cooking in the context of her home and family. We also loved speaking to her and her husband about family and culture. Also, we enjoyed eating the delicious food! It was a feast.
