We had a lot of fun on a tour with Chelo! He has degree in biology and is very knowledgeable about nature. He has an “eagle eye” and can spot so many animals and plants. He had a telescope that allows you to see animals as if they were very close to you! We learned a lot on our tour! Chelo is a wonderful company to be around!

My wife and I explored Diria National Park with Marcello (Chelo) and Cassiana from Oropopo. The whole experience was fantastic! Aside from the four of us, we saw only three others in the park, one of whom was the ranger, who Chelo knew from biology classes. Chelo’s ability to spot animals was uncanny, and we saw a large family of monkeys, iguanas, and many species of birds and insects. He was quick to set up his telescope for viewing animals, and he recorded photos and videos for us looking through the scope with our phones. He also pointed out many plants and their interesting adaptations. Our second hike was to a waterfall that was maybe 80 feet tall, and we got to take a shower at the bottom and sit in the pools! Highly recommend!!

We went for a beautiful 2 h hike beside a small river. Our guide had a profound knowledge about the plants and the wild animals of a tropical dryforest and answered all the questions of the tour members. We were rewarded with a stunning waterfall were we had a comfortable rest and where delicious fruits were offered and we had time to have a relaxing shower and bath in the river. I can recommend this trip also for families.

The Trip was amazing! We went threw the rainforest, following a crystal clear stream up the hill. The tourguide chelo explained a lot about different animals and plants what we saw on our way and on almost every question that I had, he had an answer! At the end we arrived at a wonderful waterfall were we could cool ourself down and went for a swim. The tour all in all is about 4 hours so we still had enough time to watch Sunset at the Beach or do some other stuff.

We really enjoyed our recent private tour of Diria National Park with Chelio. His passion for nature and deep knowledge of the area shone through, making the entire experience both educational and exhilarating. The hike was perfectly paced, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems of the park. Chelio pointed out various plants and wildlife, sharing fascinating insights that truly enhanced our appreciation of the natural beauty around us. The highlight was definitely encountering some rare bird species – a real treat for any nature enthusiast! What sets this tour apart is Chelio's personalized approach. He took the time to understand our interests and tailored the tour to match, ensuring a unique and memorable experience for everyone in our group. His friendly and approachable demeanor made it feel like we were exploring with a close friend rather than just a guide. If you're looking for a genuine, off-the-beaten-path experience in Costa Rica, I highly recommend Chelio's Private Tour Diria National Park. It's not just a tour; it's an adventure that connects you with nature in the most intimate way. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just someone who loves nature, this tour will leave you with a profound appreciation for one of Guanacaste's hidden gems.

My day was a great experience with Marcelo! The wealth of knowledge about the history culture flora and fauna of Costa Rica was much appreciated and I can’t believe how fast he was able to find birds in the canopy. Marcelo also sent me photos of trip the next day. The only thing I would have done differently was to experience the tour at the beginning of my trip to appreciate my visit in Costa Rica even more!

The Oropopo Experience is named for the owl which is sacred to the indigenous people. All the guides at Oropopo are knowledgeable about and respectful of the land, water, flora and fauna they share with us on their tours. Each guide that we spent time with had their own special expertise and interest -- José Pablo gave us an amazing tour of the Avellanas Mangroves & Estuary, focused mainly on the birds and important role of the mangroves in protecting the shore, Federico took us to Rincon de la Vieja to see the volcanic fumaroles and mudpots, and along the way sharing with us his unique outlook on the connection between the earth and culture, art and music. Marcelo was our guide for the Diria National Park tour. Marcelo has a wide range of knowledge about everything from the network of mycelium (fungus) that connect the majestic trees of Daria forest to the many trees and medicinal plants we saw and expertise in spotting birds that would otherwise be hidden to us. Our challenging walk up river (wear good water shoes!!) was rewarded by the sight of a magnificent waterfall and hot lunch that Marcelo had kindly carried in for us from a local Costa Rican restaurant. Marcelo was patient, kind, knowledgeable and funny! He really cared about our experience and cares about the environment. We had a great time with him at Daria. I think you will too.

Chelo was absolutely amazing! It was such a unique experience to go on hikes with him as he shared fascinating insights about the different types of trees, flowers, birds, animals, as well as local history and culture. I love these kinds of conscious, informative connections with nature. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable, Chelo is just a great person—easygoing, friendly, and a pleasure to be around. I also had the chance to do the estuary tour in Playa Avellanas, which was peaceful and deeply enriching. If you’re looking for an informative, relaxing, and meaningful way to connect with the nature and culture of Costa Rica, I highly recommend Oropopo Tours!

My husband and I went with Marchello to the Diria National Park to take a naure walk and take a dip in some of the natural pools. Marchello was very engaging and informative and his English was very good. We hiked up and saw howler monkeys, an orange beek blue throat hummingbird, turquoise brow mot mot and many other birds. Hope I spelled the birds names right. We continued on to the natural pools where snacks were provided and I had fresh pineapple while I soaked in the cool water. On the way back to our hotel, we stopped for lunch and had a delicious meal. This tour was such a good introduction to the area and gave us a lot of information and respect for Costa Rica. Marchello’s warmth and his love of his country was evident and his ability to share that with us was priceless.
