Rano Raraku
This is the only volcanic cone tuff quarry existing on the island. This material allowed the construction of the moai on a larger scale. Rano Raraku houses the quarry where the moai were built and from where they were moved to the ahu (ceremonial platforms) in the island.
Ahu Tongariki
Located opposite to Rano Raraku this is the largest platform from all of the reconstructed on the island. The ahu Tongariki is the most imposing moai platform in the island. This altar has fifteen visible standing statues overlooking the island with their backs to the Pacific Ocean.

5.00Oka was our tour guide and Lewis our driver. We had a wonderful day visiting the sites. She was a native of the island and was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history. The lunch was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and saw everything we wanted to. When you buy your island pass make sure you take the corresponding id or a photo as I had put on our passport details but took our driving licenses as id which were no good as they did not correspond to the info I had submitted. Fortunately we had photos of our passports on our phones and they sufficed.

5.00Our guide Toto was truly amazing. He was full of fascinating information, delivered in great depth and in good English. We had a fun day as Toto is not only knowledgeable but has a sense of humour which is important when spending the day with someone you know nothing about. He introduced us to Easter Island pineapples which are the sweetest I have ever eaten, took us for a great lunch for some Tuna Ceviche chosen off a menu at a beach restaurant which is one of the islands specialities. The Moai are not to be missed and in fact can’t be - they are all over the island. What else can I say except thank you for a day out that far exceed what we had expected.

5.00Toke was excellent. We really enjoyed the day with him and he gave us a true sense of the island. I would recommend booking direct with the travel agency though as Viator was a disappointment.

5.00I booked a full-day tour with Kava Tours, combined with the Tongariki sunrise. I was picked up at 6:00 AM by Toto, the driver and guide for that day. I had an amazing day! Toto shared a lot of knowledge about the history of the Moai, the Island, and the Birdman culture. It was an excellent introduction to Rapa Nui and its beauty. Thank you, Toto and Kava Tours! It was a long and intensive day, but it was certainly worth it.
