This tour includes the entrance into the forts (El Morro and/or San Cristobal). Most of the tour companies don't have the authorization to go inside.

We loved our tour with Normari! She shared so many cool facts about the Fort and OSJ. It kept both my husband and I and our 11 year old daughter engaged and we're still talking about some of the info she shared. She showed us all the beautiful spots and important places in OSJ. It was just what I'd hoped for when booking a tour!

On February 17, 2026, my wife and I had the pleasure of touring Old San Juan under the assured guidance of Javier Ruiz. Friendly and well-informed, Mr. Ruiz made the historic fortress, cathedral, and crowded city streets come alive for us, helping us understand the special aspects--surprising, tragic, sometimes comical--that make these scenes of great interest. What's more, Mr. Ruiz has a strong personal involvement with San Juan and Puerto Rico, which was manifest in his effort to help us experience "the spirit of the place," as he would put it, and in his providing current-day cultural, political, and social context for the ancient sites in which we walked. For the visitor able to spend significant time with only a few Puerto Ricans during a (regrettably) brief stay, it would be hard to improve on Mr. Ruiz. And if you are able to include lunch in your tour, let him guide you to an excellent mofongo.

Normarí was our tour guide and great from the start! Good communication on meeting points, friendly, and was sure to make the most of our time together. We spend 2/3 of the time together at fortress learning about early PR history and 1/3 in the city learning about more recent culture, the churches, and shopping. She was able to answer all of our questions, gave us good pointers on things to do after she left us, and of course practical advice on transportation and hydration reminders. Would totally recommend Normani and a private tour so you can go at your own pace and focus on what interests you.

Javier was a wonderful guide, planning an interesting day for my whole family ages 12 to 52 on our first trip to Puerto Rico. He is extremely professional and exceptionally knowledgeable.

Fantastic waking tour of Old San Juan. Our guide Christian was super knowledgeable, but most importantly easy to get along with and really relaxed. We ended up having lunch together at the end of the tour. This is a great option if you want to go a little deeper into the history of PR in general, and especially if you want to have candid discussions about the current state of affairs in PR, and broader discussions that are not available on a cookie cutter tour. My kids were pretty engaged the whole time, which speaks volumes. Definitely recommend a private tour.

Javier was wonderful. Very knowledgeable about a wide range of the history of Puerto Rico, architecture, religious heritage, as well as many current political and social issues. He is clearly passionate about giving a great experience. We enjoyed our walk of Old San Juan and sipping pina coladas with him at Barachina. We even got to see his home while on the tour. Highly recommend.

Javier is by far the best guide in Old San Juan. We heard this from local passers by all throughout our tour. He is highly educated too. We benefitted from his amazing knowledge not just of the city and its buildings but of the historical events that shaped the city, its political framework and cultural aspects too. Javier guides with a refined yet very laid back approach. We never felt rushed and he didn't end the tour right on the clock. He has a lovely and warm demeanor and is a genuinely sweet guy. We loved him! It should also be noted that he charges per tour and not per person! He is much more affordable than his agency tour operator competitors. Highly recommend.
