Skippers Canyon
Just as the early miners did in the 1860s, you’ll set off from Queenstown’s town centre, travel through the stunning Queenstown Gorge (Blow Ho Gully), and deep into the heart of Skippers Canyon. Along the way, our GPS-activated stories, (professionally narrated by voice actors and available in Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish), will bring the region’s goldrush history to life — giving you all the insights and stories you could want, while your expert Driver/Guide focuses on navigating the dramatic alpine road ahead. Travelling with children, or just in the mood to enjoy the views in peace? No problem — we offer multiple onboard audio channels, including three radio stations and two dedicated children’s storytelling tracks, so there’s something for everyone. The full experience lasts between 3 and 4 hours, with plenty of photo stops along the way.
We finish the tour at Gantley’s Tavern, a historic goldmining pub dating back over 160 years, where you can enjoy either a hot drink, or a beer/wine — all included in the price, before dropping you off back at your original pickup point.

5.00I was travelling solo and choose to do this half day tour, last minute, instead of hiking since it was raining. I don’t regret it. Beautiful scenary and interesting information provided by the narration and Cal. He also answer every question you can think of during stops. For the price, it’s really worth it!

5.00Stunning scenery in the Skippers Canyon - great size tour, great tour leader. Would certainly recommend. They audio on the headset is triggered by GPS as you drive throughout the canyon - pretty neat!

5.00We had a fantastic tour through the canyon with Cal. Lots of knowledge and stories told, some in person some by headphones. The scenery is stunning and there is loads of places to take pics. The voices on the headphones were deeper tones and easy to listen to. We also got to stop at a great pub when the tour was over. Highly recommend, and a great price. Been there...... Bought the t shirt!

5.00The trip was well organized and researched and led by Cal. We were driven in new Toyota van, during segments of the trip, we listened to well researched accounts of the gold rush of Skippers. We pulled off many times for photos and further explanations and questions. The views were exquisite. If you’re in Queenstown you really must do this to get a sense of Queenstown’s origin story and drama of the prospectors of Skippers Canyon. As an added bonus, a well behaved golden retriever named Aster is in the trip and makes the experience all the more fun.

5.00Incredible experience! Great day trip out to Skippers Canyon with stunning views at every corner. Perfect if you are looking for something different to do in Queenstown and also interested to learn about the history of the place. Very informative guide and interesting stories onboard. Easy pick-up and drop-off in Central Queenstown.

5.00We had an amazing experience with The Goldrush Tours. The tour was very informative and truly impressive from start to finish. Cal was fantastic — very helpful, easy-going, and made everyone feel comfortable throughout the journey. We especially enjoyed the trip to Queenstown. Everything was well organised, and Cal shared so much interesting information that made the experience even more meaningful. It was a wonderful tour and created great memories for us. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a professional and enjoyable tour experience!
