This is such a beautiful thing to do. The horses are so honest and know their job well. Because we are experienced riders, we were taken off from the main group for a tolt....that was so fun and so special for us. The staff were all incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

The staff were absolutely fabulous! We were late because our Google maps took us to the wrong location, and the rest of the group had left when we finally arrived. They were so gracious and took the 4 of us out to catch up to the main group. They also provided coveralls, which were key on the cold, windy day we were there.
Would recommend for beginners!

An experience I will remember forever. I chose the Hotel pickup and honestly, the conversations I had in the car with other tourists made me feel like I was part of a community even before the horse riding, I will say, majority of the group had some prior experience with horse riding while I was a beginner. The good thing is that there is an option to take a "walking" tour where you just ride the horse at a slower pace than the rest of the experienced group.

I booked the Red Lava Horse Riding Tour with pick-up through Guide to Iceland. It was a marvelous ride! I received an email explaining when, where, and how I was to be picked up a day prior to my tour. I really appreciated that communication. The van was on time and it took about 30 mins to drive out to the stables. The lovely ladies who supervised the ride were excellent! Very friendly, knowledgeable and they did a great job instructing us how to ride as well as, providing information regarding the surrounding lava fields. The thing I liked best was that, if you wanted, you could learn how to put the horse into a tolt (a special gait of Icelandic horses). I loved this! So much fun! I would definitely book this tour again, BUT I would try to book directly through Solhestar and NOT GO through Guide to Iceland.

The horses are so gentle and well cared for and the staff was excellent, guiding the tour group and giving clear and understandable directions for beginners and opportunities to try the “Tolt” for more experienced riders. The red lava formations were so beautiful with the mountains in the background. Excellent experience!

Riding an Icelandic horse through the forest and red rock lava field was an an amazing experience! I got to see landscape I never would have seen from a driving. Our guide, Claudia, was awesome and so knowledgeable about the area, the horses gentle and Tölting through the fields was so much fun! Their warm suits provided kept me warm and I had merino wool layers underneath. Simply beautiful experience.
