The reindeer and the Sami have been living and working on this land for centuries and they have only recently invited guests to be part of their daily life. You will visit their camp and have a chance to feed the herd of around 300 wild reindeer who will swarm all around and some will even eat from your hands. You will then be invited for hot drinks around the fire inside a warm candle lit gamme (Traditional Sami Hut) where a relaxed three course meal will be served, including bidos cooked over the open fire (a traditional Sami stew).
After dinner you will be invited into a lavvu (Sami tent) and gather round the fire to listen to stories about Sami culture and how it is to be a reindeer herder. The Sami guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song) for the guests. If you are lucky and the sky is clear you will have a chance to see the northern lights above the reindeer camp.

Lots of reindeers to feed buckets of pellets to. Some were a bit rowdy though with imposing antlers that were close to peoples’ faces so not for nervous people/children. Three course meal served in plastic bowls/plates was ok served in large hut with log fire. Short talk by Sami reindeer herder interesting. Northern lights mention in the title is misleading as you simply have a chance to see them because it’s dark and you are outside - nothing more than that. Overall enjoyable.

The pickup was simple and easy with relatively clear directions in the email. About a 40min bus ride brought us to the camp. Brought inside out of the cold for a quick discussion regarding how to feed the reindeer before heading out and being allowed to feed the reindeer as much as you like, which I thought was great, given the time frame your allowed to feed them, you will go through a couple buckets worth. After, heading back inside, awaiting you is an offer of hot drinks and snacks whilst you wait for dinner. The dinner offering was great and fast, the staff were very kind and attentive to those with dietary requirements such as vegetarian, I do not believe GF bread was offered however, for those that are gluten intolerant. However the stew, salad and cake were all delicious. The story telling after was also quite interesting. Overall, great tour and the staff were great!
