Escape the bustle of Sofia and enjoy a day filled with history, nature, and authentic local flavors. Your day begins with a comfortable 1 hour and a half transfer (approximately 110 km).
Upon arrival, you will explore the magnificent Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have about 2 hours to admire its vibrant frescoes, walk through the grand courtyard, and step into hidden corners such as the old monastic kitchen, the traditional guest rooms, and the quiet inner corridors once used by the monks. You will also have the chance to try a beloved local specialty — mekitsa, Bulgarian yogourt or cheese.
The premium option includes a lunch in a family-run tavern renowned for its fresh mountain trout, sourced from the crystal-clear streams of the Rila Mountains. In addition, you may also enjoy a wine tasting featuring regional varieties.
In the late afternoon, unwind during the 1 hour 30-minute transfer back to Sofia, enjoying the peaceful scenery on the way.

5.00Simone from Travel Buddy was very patient and accommodating, we thoroughly enjoyed this private tour to the Rila Monastery including driving through the winding mountain roads and he took the effort to reschedule another boutique winery for wine tasting when the original winery was not available for tasting. Even the owner of Bogdaya Boutique Winery was so hospitable and he offered various unique wine for tasting, so much until we have to decline as the tour duration as overran but Simone still offered to bring us to a local restaurant for late lunch which we have to decline as well. I will not hesitate to recommend my friends and you readers to engage Simone if you are visiting Bulgaria. Till then and we will be back in the near future. P/S: Simone, hope you enjoy the wine on a special occasion.
