The Serengeti National Park is famous for being the scene of the largest migratory movement of wild animals in the world, it is the famous "Great Migration" of the Serengeti, which has as its protagonists about one and a half million wildebeest and half a million zebras, in constant search of pastures and water.
The period between December and early April sees large herds of wildebeest and migrant zebras concentrated in the low grass plains of the south-central Serengeti for the calving season: 80% of newborns see the light at this very time of year. The savannahs become covered with herbivores as far as the eye can see, their presence attracts numerous predators. It is the best time to explore the region between the Seronera Valley and Lakes Ndutu and Masek.

Lake Manyara National Park
Photosafari in the Lake Manyara Park. Lake Manyara, under the Rift Valley escarpment, is home to extremely varied environments, despite its small size (330 square kilometers, of which 200 are occupied by the lake). They range from the dense forests fed by the resurgences that emerge at the foot of the Rift Valley, to the savannahs, to the marshy areas on the lake. Numerous animal species, including large colonies of baboons, vervet monkeys and other species of monkeys, elephants, giraffes and as many as 380 species of birds. Here, during the period from December to March, large flocks of pink flamingos settle, which then migrate towards Lake Natron between June and October. Among the predators are numerous leopards and lions; the latter, bothered by the humidity of the soil and insects, have acquired the habit (quite rare among these big cats and found only in a few other areas) of climbing on the branches of trees.

Ngorongoro Crater
Fotosafari in the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is a unique environment, without equal in the world. It is what remains of an ancient volcanic cone, whose summit collapsed about 2.5 million years ago, giving way to the current caldera: a truncated cone, which houses a "frying pan" with a diameter of 16 / 20 km, with raised edges of about 600 m with respect to the bottom, inside which a savannah has developed where more than 25,000 large animals live. All the typical species of the region, with the exception of the giraffes (which do not find nourishment here) live in the Ngorongoro Crater. The edge of the Crater reaches an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views. The outer slopes of the walls are covered by a thick blanket of primary forest. In the evening we reach the central Serengeti.

Seronera
Wildlife park in the Park which is the most famous in Tanzania and one of the most famous in the world. The Serengeti ecosystem is home to more than 1,500,000 wildebeests, about 300,000 zebras, 500,000 Thompson's gazelles, more than 2,700 lions, 1,000 leopards, 500 cheetahs, huge herds of elephants, elands, impalas, water antelopes, giraffes, ostriches, genette, and the streams are populated by crocodiles and hippos; there are more than 400 species of birds. The 15,000 square kilometers of the Serengeti National Park constitute only the largest portion of a larger ecosystem, which also includes the Ngorongoro Plains (the flat region northeast of the Ngorongoro Crater, which plays a very important role in the famous migration and is administered by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area) and the Maasai Mara (located further north, in Kenya). Here the orography, the composition of the soils and, consequently, the type of vegetation, allow sightings of animals without equal in Africa. The subsoil, constituted (above all in the southern part) by volcanic rocks, prevents in most of the Serengeti the growth of tall trees and the prairies prevail, therefore the open environment favors the sightings.

My family and I had a great experience with Safari Crew Tanzania. Thanks to the founder, Rocco Lastella, we made a magnificent tailor-made safari, perfectly adapted to the needs of our family. Excellent driving and organization, and beautiful lodges in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks that gave us unforgettable emotions when we woke up with elephants, zebras and giraffes.

It was enough to talk to Rocco on the phone for 15 minutes to understand how competent he is on the subject. This is a man who knows Tanzania (and the African continent in general) in an incredible way. We spoke to him and told him what we would like to see, he responded by giving us some travel alternatives, also choosing where to sleep (lodge or tented camp). We built our 6-night trip together, starting from Arusha to reach the Serengeti and Ndutu, passing through Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and Tarangire. We saw an incredible number of animals, from the big 5 (we only saw the rhino from afar, the other 4 very close and very many) to all the other species: wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, elephants, antelopes etc etc. We tried the experience of sleeping in tented camps surrounded by nature, as well as in "concrete" structures called lodges. Our private guide was Omar, really very very competent, he spoke Italian, we were always safe even though in some places the roads were really bad (in the sense full of mud where it takes a moment to get stuck). I swear I couldn't have imagined a better trip (it was the first safari). Thank you so much for this beautiful life experience!

It was nice to be lucky enough to be there, especially during this time and peacefully enjoying all these sightings. I started with the Ngorongoro Crater, I had the pleasure to enjoy all the animals without the noise of cars, after I spent a great time following the migration in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Safari Crew is the best organization, best guides; not only for Tanzania but also for amazing trips I have done with them earlier in Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda and Uganda. Asante sana! Tullio

If you are thinking of going to Africa... I confirm that the top are the local tour operators: experienced and competitive. We have just returned from a fantastic trip organized specifically for us by Rocco. Available and competent responds immediately both during preparation from Italy and during the trip in case you need any clarification. Being a group of 4 passionate about Africa and photography it was not always easy to comply with our requests but with our guide / driver Gerald the trip was amazing.

We arrived for Christmas and after seeing that the airline had lost its luggage we thought that it was not the best start. Everything was cancelled, the moment we met our guide MUSSA (Moses in Italian) who immediately catapulted us into the fantastic world of the BIG FIVE... We visited a Maasai population who still maintain their traditions, customs and traditions and calculating that we have two children in tow, it was for us and for them a fantastic experience! Our itinerary continued towards Lake Manyara and successively Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Ndutu, Lake Eyasi and finally Tarangire. It was a journey in the name of the Great Migration, but there was no shortage of other animals of the great Savannah. Only regret, we have never seen in Leopard.... Patience, it will be for next time!! Highly recommended for families, It 's the trip that everyone once in a lifetime should do, if then there is MUSSA... well then it will also be EPIC!
