This was such a wonderful experience! The guide Astrid was so friendly and easy to talk with, and I enjoyed meeting Milvia and her family and learning to weave a little, then enjoyed the delicious lunch they prepared. I am so grateful for their hospitality, and I learned so much!

This tour will not disappoint! Milvia welcomes you into her family home where you have the opportunity to try your hand at the backstrap loom. This really gives one an appreciation for the skill it takes to master the complex traditional patterns shared from generation to generation. After the weaving workshop, participants share (in the making and eating) of a traditional meal. Delicious! I couldn't recommend this tour more.

What an amazing excursion! I highly recommend. From the meeting location, the tour guide (Astrid) took me onto public transportation (the infamous chicken bus) to San Antonio (about 20 minute ride). It was great to learn about how to use public transportation and more about Antigua and the region while we rode the bus. Then we went to Milvia’s home where I was warmly welcomed by her, her sister, and her mother. They were lovely and so keen to share their culture. I learned about their traditional weaving and they even let me try to weave myself. I also made tortillas and helped cook a traditional meal that we all ate together. Even though I don’t speak much Spanish, I was able to communicate thanks to Astrid (the guide) who also was my translator. Truly an unforgettable experience, off the beaten path, and a more ethical way to do tourism. I highly encourage everyone to take this tour!
