Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a 87 km2 (34 sq mi) protected area in Mumbai, Maharashtra State in India. It was established in 1996 with headquarters at Borivali. It is notable as one of the major national parks existing within a metropolis limit and is one of the most visited parks in the world.
Kanheri Caves
The Kanheri Caves, nestled in the heart of the park, stand as a remarkable testament to Buddhist heritage, once a vibrant center of learning and spiritual pilgrimage. Sculpted by devoted monks from the 1st century BCE to the 9th century CE, these caves were intricately carved into a grand basalt rock formation, embodying centuries of devotion and artistry.

5.00The highlight for me was the Kanheri Caves. I didn't know much about Buddhism before, but seeing these 2,000-year-old prayer halls and monasteries carved directly into the black basalt rock was a spiritual experience. The carvings of Buddha are beautiful and the atmosphere is so serene. If you want to see nature and history without leaving the city, this is the place to go!
