A stop is made at the natural swimming pool at Playa Palmilla, about 200 or 300 meters from the beach line, with the water at the knees or at the waist, to enjoy the perfect scenery and climate. Bathers have to enjoy around 800 meters parallel to the beach, between the white sand and the huge coral terrace that separates the natural pool from the open sea and that makes this geological wonder possible.

Top.... magnífico. Praias maravilhosas, clima fantástico. Pretty friendly population. I stayed at the hotel baia portillo. Beautiful hotel, clean, and the meals magnificent.

First off, no where did I read that it was a 3.5hour car ride each way to the port. Then the "open bar" is only rum and coke with no ice. When we got to the island there were a huge amount of people and you couldn't really swim in the ocean because of the rocks and seaweed and the exhaust and the waves from the other boats. The food was 5 out of 10 and the open bar was again rum and coke. You could buy a Pina colada for $10. They had a masseuse charging $90 for an hour or $50 for a half hour. Everything felt like a scam unfortunately. We did enjoy going the area called the natural pool and swimming off the boat and saw a starfish. To make matters worse on the way back our speed boat's engine went out and we were crawling back which took us 2 hours longer than anticipated. Honestly it was not worth the money and we wish we would have stayed in Las Terrenas.

We were on holiday at the beautiful Viva Beach Hotel, the quality of the food was excellent, the bartenders were very attentive, helpful and friendly, as were all the entertainment staff in the village. Paolo who assisted us well both here and at the safari adventure the next day, beautiful tours to do and don't be wrong...contact Paolo or Cinzia from Mariposa, good, kind and above all helpful and professional, I said it all Hello really nice holiday to remember.....
