Explore XinTianDi, once a residential alley, now one of modern China's most renowned real estate developments. In this trendy shopping district, let's uncover hidden traditional Shikumen houses, which once accommodated two-thirds of Shanghai's population at their peak. Step into another peaceful alley, tucked away from the busy streets around it. Many locals still reside here—elderly women hang laundry in the passageways, while grandfathers ride their bikes through the tight lanes, picking up their grandchildren from school. It’s a beautiful glimpse of everyday life!
Fuxing Park
Stroll through the sunken gardens and past the grand fountain, you might feel as if you've stepped into Paris rather than Shanghai! Despite a century of wars and social changes, much of the park has been wonderfully preserved. Here, you can witness lively scenes of locals playing the saxophone, practicing Tai Chi, and performing with Chinese yo-yos.

5.00The private tour From Alleys to Mansions: French Concession Journey with Eastbound and Beyond in Shanghai offers a deep dive into one of Shanghai’s most charming and historically rich neighborhoods, far beyond what you'd get from a typical guidebook. From the moment we met Laura, our very knowledgeable and kind guide, it felt like walking the city with a local historian and storyteller who brought each street and building to life and provided very interesting information and facts about each street, buildings and way how people live. We wandered into hidden alleys where time seemed to stand still, and even explored some quiet courtyards, where local people live, we would never have discovered on our own. We even learnt how to make our own wooden Chinese fan, which was a fun experience to do as a family. The French Concession is a fascinating blend of colonial history, modern creativity, and everyday Shanghai life—and this tour does an excellent job of showcasing all of it. Highly recommended for curious travelers and family with kids.

5.00I can see that the team really have spent lots of time and effort to study the deep history of Shanghai and put it out a proper route to introduce the history. If you are fascinated about the history and architecture, you should not miss this tour.

5.00Had an awesome morning exploring the French Concession with this tour. We hopped between different neighborhoods. There was a stop in Tianzifang where we were taken to a craft studio, and i made a herb sachet. It smells amazing and has some medical benefits. Such a fun experience!
