  Having joined my good mate on my first trip through Western Queensland and Longreach, we quickly discovered why Outback Aussie Tours has such a strong reputation for its outback experiences. Originally, we were booked for the Thomson River cruise, but after a last-minute change, the team went above and beyond to ensure we still had a memorable evening. Instead, we were treated to the Silver-Trail Rail Sunset aboard the Outback Rail Adventure — and they certainly didn’t disappoint. My mate being the train enthusiast he is made the experience even better, with his excitement rubbing off on me from the moment we stepped aboard the beautifully restored heritage 2000 class Silver Rail Motor. Guests are welcomed onboard by friendly staff with champagne and canapés as the train rolls through the breathtaking floodplains and rugged terrain surrounding Longreach. Watching the spectacular outback sunset and the ever-changing colours across the landscape was something pretty special. And the night still wasn’t over. The experience finishes at Smithy’s, where guests are treated to a spectacular wood-fired three-course dinner and show, all while being entertained under the stars of the outback sky. A brilliant way to experience the heart of the Australian outback for the very first time.

  Beautiful nostalgic journey on an old diesel powered stainless steel, affectionately known as " Silver Bullet" train. See the wild and lovely outback scrub lands,and wildlife,kangaroos. Water birds and sheep, yep sheep! After a lovely and peaceful trip on the train, see the sunset lower below the horizon, and disembark from our silver steed, to indulge in some bush cuisine at Smithys by the river.

• Rail, Sunset, Natural outback scenery, a wide open night sky listening to live music.

  Going on the sunset ride was gorgeous seeing the scenery of the natural outback. The commentary from Mick and the excellent driving of Rob, their smiles and chatty personalities insured everyone had a good time. Stopping on the bridge to look over a water hole and watch the sunset over the horizon, while having a drink and delicious canapes. Then making our way back to 'Smithy's', being greeted by comforting smiles from the friendly staff. Smithy's is a rustic, nature filled, elegant scenery with lights twinkling overhead. A delicious dinner cooked on an open campfire with mouthwatering desserts while watching and listening to the wonderful Drew Blundell. The best part, followed by a famous Billy tea and Smithy's famous damper which you can't stop eating! Once you visit Smithy's you will want to go back again for this fantastic experience.

  We didn't do the dinner, because we had already done it the week before. The canapés on the Silver-Tails Rail Sunset trip were delicious. I was particularly impressed because I requested the gluten free option. Often, gluten free stuff is like wet sawdust, but my platter was superb! Thank you. It was a fitting end to our holiday.

  From the original contact right through to the conclusion of the tour the staff and organisational skills of those staff were amazing.
