Hop on a cruise to Shell Key Island and see dolphins and other wildlife while snorkeling. At this pristine wildlife preserve, you'll get to snorkel and observe the wildlife, go for a relaxing swim, or just walk along the beach and collect shells. Depending on the time of year, you'll see dolphins in their natural habitat, along with manatees, rays, and wild birds.
All of our rides are semi-private, with a maximum of 6 passengers per boat, so you get to avoid the crowds when you ride with us.

Island Ferry's Dolphin-Snorkeling Cruise takes you snorkeling by boat to Shell Key, and to see dolphins at the same time! See dolphins in their natural habitat, along with manatees, rays, and wild birds. Go snorkeling and shelling on Shell Key Preserve, where you'll find hermit crabs, conchs, rays, horseshoe crabs, and more. Island Ferry is not a drop-off service, but rather the boat stays at Shell Key with you for the entire time. You can take a break from snorkeling and shelling, and sit on our shaded boats with a cold drink. And while you and your family are in the water, the Island Ferry crew stands watch on lifeguard duty. So we keep everyone safe! We provide the snorkel gear and the floating noodles.

5.00Capt Noel is AMAZING!!! Our family loved his knowledge and excitement about the Bay Area and its echo system. Out second time with Capt Noel and hopefully not our last!

5.00Capt Noel took us to spot a lot of dolphins. The tour was easy going and we went out to see all the hot spots in the area. He gave us plenty of explanation but in a relaxed way so that we felt realy welcome on his boat. Would definitely recommend his tour!

5.00Captain Noel was a cool captain for sure. Knew a lot about local ecosystem. Just ask him! He knew every shell, bird etc. He didn’t talk too much unless asked, which was actually really nice. Super relaxing. We only saw a few dolphins but that was ok. And only 5 people on the boat. Would 100% recommend.
Shell Key … shells & sand dollars & sea urchins galore … yes please!

5.00I’m giving it a five because the tour itself was fabulous as was Captain Noel. In the canal headed out there was a dolphin who was playing with a fish. It was like a dog with a toy. He just kept tossing his fish in the air, then would go grab it again and toss the fish up over and over. It was very cool to watch (clearly the fish was long dead). We saw a couple other groups of dolphins that were awesome to water. I swear Captain Noel could spot a dime on the bottom of the ocean. He was very in tuned to the environment and could point things out to us before they even came into view. He was knowledgeable and informative. It was a cooler day but totally delightful. We were the only ones on Shell Key, it was great shelling and lots of shells, sand dollars and sea urchins to be found. While the trip itself was amazing the interaction with the owner was not. While there is plenty of signage, once you go up the ramp there are no signs. There are two chairs on the balcony area and apparently that’s the gathering spot. There’s no sign to indicate this but one of the retail places told us that’s where to meet. While our instructions were to show up 30 minutes before departure there was no one there until 2 minutes after departure time. I called the phone number and the owner answered. He told me the tour had been canceled because the water was too rough. He said we had been notified that morning. We verified phone number and email address … there was no notification anywhere. We had driven an hour to get there and I was not happy! It was on the cool side, but it was not particularly windy and no indications of rough weather or water. As I was being dismissed by the owner, the captain showed up. Ultimately the captain said the owner hadn’t notified him that it was canceled and he hadn’t notified us, so we went. It was not perfectly still water on the open water but it was completely manageable and a fairly smooth ride. Thankfully, the tour itself offset the negative interaction with the owner. I would absolutely love to return to Shell Key on future trips. I think there is a ferry to Shell Key which I may explore. Based on Captain Noel, I would consider going on this tour again … but based on the owner, I will have to think about it and explore other options.

5.00We had an amazing experience on our small group tour in November 2025. With near perfect weather and good Gulf conditions, it was a great adventure. Capt. Dave was knowledgeable, courteous and cordial. We encountered a pod of dolphin, manatee, sea urchin and gathered a variety of shells. Overall great experience.

5.00This was the highlight of our trip. We had the most amazing time with our tour guide, Noel. He was extremely knowledgeable and knew how to make sure we'd get to see dolphins! Not only did we see them, but they stayed and played in the boats waves for quite some time. Noel also pulled all sorts of creatures out of the ocean to show us - spider crabs, conch, horseshoe crab, etc. We then got to go to Shell Key Preserve and found the coolest shells to take home. We had ages 3 - 63 on the boat and our time was enjoyed by all!

5.00Captain Dave was very accommodating and we had a great time! He was a good Captain, informative and good with the kids We saw a pod of dolphins who swam around us for about 15 minutes and the shell punting was very successful
