Hi, I’m Aki—your Tokyo mom for the day.
Join a warm, home-style cooking experience where you’ll make ramen and gyoza from scratch in a small, friendly group.
This is more than a cooking class. It’s a chance to slow down, cook together, and share a genuine moment in Tokyo. I’ll guide you step by step—from kneading noodles to preparing a rich, comforting broth and handmade dumplings.
Many guests say it feels like visiting a local home rather than joining a typical class.
As a former backpacker and mother of three, I love connecting with people from around the world and sharing everyday Japanese food culture in a personal way.
Whether you’re visiting as a couple, with family, or with friends, you’ll feel relaxed and welcome here.
Vegan and other dietary options are available upon request. Please let me know when booking.

You’ll make ramen and gyoza from scratch in a small, hands-on group. Together, we’ll knead and cut your own noodles and learn how to wrap gyoza dumplings—one of the most fun and popular parts of the experience. You’ll also learn how to cook them to a perfect crispy finish, a technique many guests find especially useful and rewarding. Using natural ingredients—no MSG or artificial flavorings—you’ll prepare a rich and comforting broth and explore Japanese umami through katsuobushi (bonito flakes), kombu (kelp), and shiitake mushrooms, discovering how simple elements create deep, layered flavors. The ramen features a rich base made with chicken and pork, enhanced with the deep umami of katsuobushi—bringing a true taste of Japanese home cooking. Throughout the experience, I’ll guide you step by step in a relaxed, home-style atmosphere, so even beginners can feel comfortable and enjoy cooking. By the end, you won’t just have a bowl of ramen—you’ll also enjoy freshly made gyoza and a memorable experience of cooking, sharing, and connecting in Tokyo. A vegan option is available upon request.

What a great experience! Aki was excellent… very knowledgeable in the kitchen. She explained each ingredient to us then would show us the steps to prepare the dish. She spoke great English and was very helpful answering any questions we had. It’s a small class that takes up to 6 people…so it was nice to get to know Aki. She also took great photos and videos throughout the whole experience. After the class she sent organized recipes as well as photos and videos. Highly recommend! If you’re in Tokyo, the only choice should be cooking with Aki!

Amazing experience and delicious food! Tokyo Mom is an informative and engaging host! She was very accommodating to the dietary needs of our party and enabled us to prepare both vegetarian and meat dishes. We learned so much and are excited to make our own ramen and gyozas with the techniques we learned!

The food was delicious. I can't wait to try to cook it at home. The instructions were clear and the instructor was super helpful walking us through every step. The experience was very personal and my husband and I loved it. Aki also took amazing pictures of us. A truly lovely experience.

Our cooking class in Japan was easily one of the highlights of our anniversary trip. My husband and I have a tradition of taking a cooking class whenever we travel internationally, and this experience truly stood out among them all. What made it especially memorable was how intimate it felt, it just so happened it was just the two of us, which made the entire experience feel personal and relaxed rather than rushed or crowded. Our guide struck the perfect balance between being incredibly informative and keeping things light and fun. She walked us through every step in detail, which made the process even more meaningful. We had the amazing opportunity to make ramen completely from scratch kneading and cutting our own noodles and building a rich, flavorful broth. It was both hands-on and approachable, even for non-experts like us. Sitting down afterward to enjoy the meal we created together, beautifully presented, was such a rewarding moment. The space itself was spotless and thoughtfully set up with everything we could possibly need. It was clear a lot of care had gone into creating a welcoming and comfortable environment. If you’re looking for a unique and memorable experience in Japan, especially as a couple, this is something truly special. It’s more than just a class, it’s a shared memory we’ll be talking about for years- especially the gyoza!

This was such a great activity learning to make a couple of traditional foods from scratch. Aki had everything organized ready to go but the hands on were ours. She also followed up with written recipes and photos of the event

The best event we did in our 2 weeks in Japan. So much fun. Aki and her associate are so kind and helpful. We not only made our own ramen, but also gyoza. We, as the cooks, followed her instructions for the measurements and created the GREAT meal we enjoyed together. We learned how to properly fold & stuff the gyoza, roll out and cut our own noodles, cook them al dente, sear the pork shoulder, and fine tune our own creations. This was a blast. Aki sent us a load of photos and videos afterwards that we are still enjoying. This is a 10/10 experience.

Loved this class! Our group ranged in age from 10 years old to 75 and everyone enjoyed it. There was lots of opportunity for hands-on cooking and also time to enjoy our creation! The class was located in Shinjuku making it easy to continue exploring sights after this ended. Thank you, Aki!

We were 3 and were very lucky to have Aki to ourselves!! Aki speaks very good English and his explanations are simple and effective. His good mood puts him at ease right away! The apartment is very nice and bright. We loved learning how to make our own soba and gyoza (after several searches of cooking workshops, it is the only one to offer the making of soba from A to Z, the other workshops offering soba already ready). So yes it is more expensive than elsewhere but the quality of the products and instructions is there. Of course, the tasting is a huge success and we find it a little hard to believe that we prepared all this. I can only recommend the Aki courses to whom I suggested to offer for sale the necessary equipment for the preparation of soba (knife, board and roller) because you can not find in Tokyo in small format like those used during the course (even in Kappabashi Street where I went, in vain. Because let’s be honest, we all want to remake the recipe once we get home!

Lovely time with a small group making ramen - including instructions on how to make the broth and the noodles from scratch. Aki was a very talented teacher. Well worth your time and the fees!
