The colours of the outback come alive at sunset as you glide down the Thomson River aboard the M.V. Longreach Explorer. After a warm welcome by our experienced crew, take your seat on the top deck ready to capture 360-degree sweeping, river and floodplain views. Our Captain will enthral you with captivating stories about the river, its wildlife and Indigenous heritage. Enjoy complimentary nibbles on board, and purchase icy cold drinks from our licensed bar.
Photo opportunities are endless, but our stop at Sunset Bend is a hands-down favourite. As we leisurely cruise back to our dock, you will see stunning vibrant sunset colours as they fade into starlight.

5.00Another excellent river sunset experience. I’m a local and never tire of the tourist experience. I have been on the train a couple of times and the river cruise several times. Well done Sue Allan and the team. Great value for money too.

5.00Relaxing and restoring. David informed us of the history of the river and entertained us his wit and knowledge. We enjoyed lovely nibbles on board thanks to Joyce. Very handy to be fetched and returned to our accommodation. We highly recommend this Longreach river tour.
If you do nothing else while your in longreach, this is a must.

5.00This was the best night out I had in Longreach. The tour guide was a wealth of knowledge regarding the river and the area, licensed bar and snacks, the views and sunset were stunning and the to finish the night off with a truly lovely meal, listening to great music in the ambience of fairy lights and a fire pit, with table service. It was truly wonderful. The musician they had was truly talented. I would absolutely go again. I was a solo traveler and found myself at a table with wonderful people.

5.00Apart from not expecting a navigable river at Longreach, it was a pleasure to travel on the Smithy Sunset Cruise. It was most informative and scenic. Seeing the river turtles was also a surprise. Followed by a very nice outback dinner and superb entertainment by Drew Blundell. NB: they supply transport to and from town if needed.

5.00A truly wonderful cruise. From booking to pick up, cruise transfer, commentary on the cruise, nibbles and drinks, stories told and the service by our boats captain, Ash and hostess Joyce, it was all tremendous. The sunset colours were amazing. Every view on the cruise is superb and the personal attention to ensure visitors are enjoying themselves was wonderful. Sadly, we were outside the tourist season and were unable to book the cruise and dinner experience, but going by the cruise alone, I would absolutely recommend booking any of these experiences. Well worth the money! Thank you to Alan, Sue and all the staff. Our last evening in Longreach did not disappoint. You have a safe and wonderful operation. We look forward to joining in other tours when we next visit.

4.00The boat trip was very relaxing and the guides were very friendly. Even though there was no sunset views due to weather conditions we were very happy with the cruise. We saw lots of animals and it was lovely. Thanks to Ash and Joyce for their company.
An unexciting river trip worth $40 at most.

2.00Pretty basic trip up a muddy river with nothing much to see. On our particular night there was no sunset due to weather.
