Walk through wild countryside to the 130m high Coomanassig waterfall and take a break by the dark waters of Eagle Lake. Marvel at the towering 260 metre corrie cliff faces. Explore this geological wonderland and the lower heights of the Dunkerron Mountains. Traverse the open moorland long ago smoothed by the deposits of ice age glaciers.

Possible encounters with sheep, hares, mountain goats, huge ravens and perhaps the white-tailed sea eagles.

Enjoy spectacular views to Sneem, Kenmare Bay and the Caha Mountains on the Beara Peninsula.

Please note that this walk follows a rising path from the start and includes off-trail sections. Waterproof boots with good soles are required.

We’ll meet at Álaind Lodges at 11 am before continuing by car to the start of the trail. Today’s walk brings us up close to the spectacular Dunkerron Mountains. Waterproof boots with good soles are required. We'll be ascending the stone path towards Knocknagantee mountain before branching off to find the beautiful Coomanassig waterfall and Eagles Lake. Along the way we’ll pick our way around the rocky outcrops which were left behind by ice age glaciers. We’ll walk right up to the waterfall and cliff walls by skirting around the edge of the dark water lake. Coomanassig waterfall is 130 metres tall and the cliffs themselves are 250 metres tall. We’ll spend about 30 mins here (weather depending), a good opportunity to enjoy any snacks/refreshment you bring.

This was an absolutely wonderful hike with Fergal. He is so knowledgeable about the area and shared his knowledge with us. The walking sticks made a huge difference. We have hiked before without them and now I know I will always use them in the future. We were lucky that other than a few sprinkles when we stopped for lunch the weather cooperated. We had bad rain the afternoon and early evening the night before but that just made the waterfalls more breathtaking.

Fabulous hike in the Sneem area with wonderful views , stunningly beautiful .We had a brilliant leader Darius who was very informative about the area , and about the flora and fauna which overall made for a great hike in this remote area

Fergal owner of Alaind walking was our leader on a fabulous walk in Knocknagantee/Knockmoyie area, Eagle Lough and Lough Coomacronia. He is professional in his approach, sharing information of the local area and really lovely to all our group. We would highly recommend Fergal as a super guide. Kathleen McGrath

The walks were fabulous. The scenery was stunning. Our guide Fergal was excellent. His attention to detail ensured that the walks were very enjoyable and safe. The guest house which was run by Trish and Chris was beautiful and homely. Breakfast was always freshly cooked and packed lunch was also provided. A really unexpected perk was that our wet and muddy boots were cleaned and dried for our walk the following day. Well done to all at Alaind Walking tours. We will be back. Would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of a hiking holiday in Kerry

We had a great time…the walks were fantastic and having a guide like Fergal made a huge difference…he was informative, good humored and we felt very safe. Fergal guided us on two brilliant hikes. He tailored the hikes to our preferences and fitness, gave us very interesting information about the places, brought us to beautiful scenic viewing points. We stayed in his fabulous B& B, driven to and from the hikes. I highly recommend Fergal to anyone needing a mountain guide.

We had a wonderful weekend of walking with Alaind Walking Holidays. The B&B was excellent thanks to Trish & Chris. Fergal was a very confident knowledgeable leader. He led us on two walks with spectacular views of the mountains and lakes, we were blessed with glorious weather. Will be returning to walk with Fergal and would recommend Alaind Walking Holidays.

Our walking group enjoyed a fantastic few days with Alaind's Walking Holidays. The scenery was magnificent with memorable hillwalking. Fergal was very friedly, experienced and showed great knowledge of the area. I would really recommend Alaind Walking Holidays. Accommodation and food was first rate.
