It is almost two-thirds of the length of the river from its origin at Lake Dharam Sar deep in the Kaghan Valley before its confluence with the Jehlum River.[1] The lower area below Balakot, sometimes referred to as Nainsukh Valley, is temperate, while Kaghan Valley above Balakot City is cold enough to turn the whole area to freezing in the winter. Kaghan Valley is a pleasant summer destination. Its upper part from Naran upstream lacks the monsoon, but the lower part gets it well, and so it is forested.

It also makes for the perfect weekend getaway from Islamabad. The trek to Thandiani is known as Dugri Trek. Though it is considered the longest mountain trail in the Galiyat region, it is extremely popular among adventure seekers for its otherworldly beauty surrounded by thick pine forests and a clear sky. The trek for Thandiani starts at Miranjani Top, which then leads to Dugri and then Beran Gali before spiraling towards the relatively isolated tourist destination of Thandiani Thandiani is characterized by excellent weather and lush greenery in the summer months, and snow-covered vistas and hills in the winter.
Harnoi is a small town located 10 km east of Abbottabad on the main Nathiagali Road. Surrounded by mountains and host to pleasant weather, Harnoi Waterfall and Lake Abbottabad is the hub of tourist activities. Murree
Murree is a mountain resort city in the northernmost region of the Punjab province of Pakistan. Lying in the Galyat region of the Pir Panjal Range under the western Himalayas, it is located in the northeast of the capital city of Islamabad. The town was built in the mid-19th century and served as the summer capital of the British Punjab, allowing British troops to escape the scorching heat of the plains of Punjab. It has an average altitude of 2,291 metres (7,516 ft). Construction of the town was started in 1851 on the hills of Murree as a sanatorium for British troops. The permanent town of Murree was constructed in 1853 and a church was consecrated shortly thereafter. One main road was established, commonly referred to as "Mall Road". Murree was the headquarters of the colonial Government of the Punjab Province during the 1873–1875 summer; later the summer capital was moved to Shimla.

Changla Gali is one of the tourist mountain resort towns of the Galyat area of Pakistan. It has an elevation of 2804m.[ During British rule it was the headquarters of the Northern Command School of Musketry.In the 1890s Changla Gali, referred to as Changla Gulee, was mentioned by British geologist Charles Stewart Middlemiss when he was doing a survey of the area as part of his geological fieldwork in Hazara for the colonial era Geological Survey of India, he noted how it was half-way halting-place for travellers from Murree to Donga Gali or to Nathia Gali.

Nathia Gali
Nathia Gali or Nathiagali is a hill station and mountain resort town located in the Abbottabad District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is located at the centre of the Galyat tract of the Himalayas, where several hill stations are situated. It is situated approximately 32 kilometres (20 mi) away from both Murree and Abbottabad. Nathia Gali is known for its scenery, hiking trails and weather, which is much cooler than the rest of the Galyat tract due to it being at a higher altitude. History During British rule, Nathia Gali, then part of Abbottabad tehsil of Hazara District, served as the summer headquarters of the Chief Commissioner of the (then) Peshawar division of the Punjab.[4] The town, along with Dunga Gali constituted a notified area under the Punjab Municipalities Act, 1891. The income in 1903-04 was Rs. 3,000, chiefly derived from a house tax, while expenditure was Rs. 1,900.

Khaira Gali
Khaira Gali is one of the tourist mountain resort towns of the Galyat area of Pakistan. It has an altitude of 2347m. Khaira Gali is located in Palak which is a Union Council of Abbottabad District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. This hill station was also used as a barricade by the British during the colonial period and during the summer months it was occupied by one of the British mountain batteries, which were stationed at Rawalpindi during the winter. It is also famous for the hexagon manor on the highest elevation of the town.

Ghora Gali
Ghora Gali is one of the tourist mountain resort towns of the Galyat area of northern Pakistan. It has an elevation of 1,691 m (5,548 ft) and is located in the northeastern tip of the Punjab province of Pakistan. Ghora Gali is also a Union council, an administrative subdivision, of Murree Tehsil in Murree Districtand is located at 33.83°N 73.35°E. According to the 1998 census of Pakistan, it had a population of 14410. Ghora Gali served as a resort for British colonialists and troops during the British Raj. In 1860, the Lawrence College was established here originally as an asylum for orphans of British troops killed in the wars.[4] Also in 1860 the Murree Brewery was established here and produced beer for British troops; however, in 1947 following independence from Britain and the ensuing riots during the independence of Pakistan in 1947 the building was destroyed
